I've bought it but not paid for it... I'm going to get them to confirm the box type before I pay for it. I'll also have to talk to a courier on cost of shipping... :pale:

If it's a CTN box then i'll get it. The ASD might be a little to highly geared for my poor little G60

New (but not new) gearbox question....

This second hand ASD box ive got is low mileage but looks a little tatty. What would i need to get it looking ship shape? ALSO... I assume if i fit a new box I'll need to get a gearbox gasket?

No gasket required but you might want to think about starter motor, shift tower, reverse light switch, slave syl etc etc

Mr Yan has a gearbox cleaning facility in his back garden - Mrs Yandards likes nothing more than a load of bits of wire wheel all over her washing :-)

I've just recently replaced the starter motor and I've been told to retain my existing shift tower as the mk3 golf one is a little different. Weird it not having a gasket... would have thought it would need it.

Mr Yan gave me some advice but he failed to mention his cleaning facility... I may drive up to Elgin and drop my box off with Mrs Yan and her laundry.

I may need to replace the spedo-sensor, my speedo is a little wonky as i recall. I'll see into getting a new slave cylinder though (for clutch yeah?)

Sorry for the silliness in questions but I'm great at hitting things with hammers but not much good at engineering as such :)

Your starter should fit ok,

My original 16v starter fitted my CTN with no problem !

Yeah, most of the starters between the g60, 16v, golf gti are all very similar, I think it should fit fine.

SO... I'll just get http://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/c/Volkswagen_Corrado_1.8_1991/p/car-parts/car-transmission/clutch-and-associated-parts/hydraulic-clutches/?137440041&1&1fe1edcba737bcfd3592909167dfb561a3c884fc&CSCY this.... and check my existing Rear gear switch when i come to change them over SORTED!

By the way, They just delivered it... :D

everything from your old box, starter motor, shifter tower, clutch cylinder will bolt straight on! No mods needed Alex but id change the clutch slave cylinder if its old.

If you look at the mk3 tower where tower cables join to the tower, your raddo cable would have to been at an angle which i found caused lot of problems, hence used the original tower

Ive just realised that i used to have different name on the forum,i used to be called offhisrocker. think that happened when site got updated?

Was chatting to Yan about it and he asked of I'd be going down again but just at the moment it's looking unlikely I'll be free as the misses (not you kris) is wanting to go on holiday around the same time. Next year thou my car should be fixed and on the road so I'll def be down then!

Hope you still have your c then mic :(

Little update: (sorry no pics)

Dismantled the old radiator the other day. The fan cowling was touching the fan blades and stopping the motor from turning the fan... a light tickle with a hammer freed up the fan though and After testing with a spare battery I can tell you the motor is still in good nick! Whey! :D

Soooo, here is what my car should have....

And what I'm missing is item 13 (plastic cover) and I'll need a new fan cowling and nuts to fit it. OOOoo and a radiator... need that too, well  I THINK i do... I took it off and tbh, the radiator looks good. I mean, it's not brand new but it looks in good nick. I think the leak is coming from the plastic trim on the radiator and not the actual rad itself. I may get it tested by a specialist before I give up on it. Advice on servicing radiators would be welcome!

Shopping list:

 • Fan cowl - 535121205A
 • 4 x m6 hexagon nut, shouldered - N 90175203
 • 4 x hexagon head panel screw - N 90310301
 • Plastic rad cover - 535121343B
 • 2 x Insert nut for cover - 811807577C
 • 2 x screw for cover - N 0139383
 • Metal clip for cover - 191121093C

I do hope I can remember where all these various screws go too! I have about 3 tubs with loads of various screws and bolts and i aint got a f'in clue where they all go! :bonk:

One more thing... If the rad can't be salvaged or if it will cost more than £50 to fix then this is the radiator for me

http://www.vwcarpartsuk.co.uk/p2806397/VW-CORRADO-1.8-G60-Petrol-1988-1993-Radiator-engine-cooling/product_info.html?utm_source=google&utm_medium=base&utm_campaign=Make-Model-Product

I've done my research and this rad is made by AVA cooling down south who make pattern parts for loads of different cars. You'll only get a better one if you buy from VW but that's £300

Looks good - you should check that it comes with the elbow as per OE and also if they will supply these seperatly too?

do you mean the 90 degree plastic elbow on the top of the rad? I'll ask when I buy it... wont be till after my sisters wedding thou (next week maybe?)

Just a short one. Got back from my sisters wedding this afternoon to find my car cover had blown away in the wind. It was a halfords high quality one and tbh, I saw it coming... It's ripped on numerous occasions and hasn't done a great job of keeping the worst off my car. It's only lasted a year as well... For £120 i would have expected more.

Anywho, if anyone has any experience with car covers then I would appreciate the advice.

Edit: My sister looked amazing btw... Very nice wedding all-round

Just to highlight the problem, found out that Dundee recorded wind speeds of 80+mph and I happen to live on a hill with no surrounding trees. Driving home i saw a wheely bin flying down the road and it over took me doing 30mph! sketchy!

Anywho, not surprisingly I found the car cover missing and now I'm going to replace it. For the time being, I was wondering If I could use a tarpaulin? Baring in mind my paint isn't in the greatest condition anyway, I just need to keep the water off it until I can get a weekend to fix her up!

I'm sure you could do that. I would also recommend investing in something called string. It's quite useful at keeping stuff attached to other stuff.

You are being a cheeky monkey today arn't you!

The halfords cover had straps but although the straps where strong enough the fabric they were stitched to was not! I found fragments of cover attached to various parts of my car ripped clean off the cover :shocked!:

wow!! impressive :D

my halfords cover ripped also. In fact I was reseating my cover after the wind blew it but it was slightly damp and the sufrace tension with the body panel and the damp cover was enough to make it tear when I moved it! Crazy!

A tarp should be fine, just make sure it isn't a loose weave one else the weather units will still get through.

I like it! :D

also the reinforced holes mean you can bolt it to the ground if need be!

p.s. how do you stop your dundee cake blowing away?
