Sorry I can't help, well could do the bacon sarnies !!! (If that would get me included in the trip to Merc or Brooklands - of course I am assuming there are Test Drives) !!!!

Should have added I can do lots of P.... Taking, but will leave Toad to the Forum luving !!!!!

A recent fault on mine was only diagnosed by putting on 3 new differing parts to establish which was the fault.

Hoping you get this resolved with just the extra tenner spent.

Keep positive. :)

Mercedes Benz World is great fun - you can blast round in the AMGs, which are phenomenal machines, plus there's loads of interesting history about Mercedes in general - such as their safety feastures (I know that's not exactly rock and roll, but it's fascinating just how good their cars are in speed and safety). Plus on Formula 1 days they have a huuuuge screen up to watch the race.

Unfortunately mate I didn't win the stuff on ebay so I'll not be down your way now. Be good to meet up and get yours sorted. You go to any shows/meets at all?

right now the car can only drive a bout 100yards before it goes all knackered. Until I get it running I'm going to be avoiding all shows - they'd just make me feel worse.

Sure I've got "the beige avenger" that I can drive around to shows, but its not the same as the rado :(

Faulty ECU relay was the cause of the problems by the looks of it! It runs well again.

Thanks goodness.

Thanks to all of you for helping me stay on the wagon!

Wonderful news mate, just goes to show how useful forums like this actually are. Just a shame you spent time/money at garages beforehand but I guess it was one of those faults that if you weren't in the know you can easily miss.

Glad you're keeping it, now get out there for a nice drive in the sun!

Glad to hear it. It took me about 8 months to diagnose that one on mine - i went down the route of even checking the immobiliser and isolating various circuits. My own fault though in a rush to get things working, i checked 109 early on but not thoroughly hence all the unnecessary additional expense and effort.

I'm at my wits end - for the past 3 years I've been having running / cutting out problems with my Corrado - I've had it to The Phirm, Stealth Racing and my local independent VW specialist, and no-one has sorted it for me.

I've looked at my bills over the past 3 years and in total the car owes me close to 10 grand in work and parts alone - and it doesn`t even run properly! It's not the 10 grand that annoys me, as if it was running right it would be worth every penny, but it's not running right and no-one can help me!

I can't keep going through this. I can't afford the money or the hassle.

Its a lovely looking car, and I loved it when it was running right, but now it just kicks me in the teeth and the wallet too much.

And my heart's just not in it any more.

Mark

OMG !!!!

6 months ago I could have been writing this thread, then some random guy said have you tried the ignition switch, it was £10 from the dealers and it solved EVERYTHING ..... well worth a try, if you are near Nottingham try basford dynotune, thats who fixed mine

I'm in exactly the same boat at the moment. Corrado ownership can be so stressful. Sick of spending all my free time and cash fixing things. Most frustrating thing in the world seems to be that you fix something, its ok for a while, then the same problems comes back and its caused by something else. Also how difficult is it to work on a VR6, big engine plus little engine bay means lots of swearing and skinned knuckles. Yesterday my Corrado even tried to runaway from me when the handbrake cable gave up! Leaving a big scuff on the front bumper and crack in the splotter :(

But its all worth it for the few weeks when it works ok before breaking again

No No No!! Don't say that :brickwall:

I'm looking to get back into a VR and these thoughts are scaring the bejasus out've me. I keep thinking, after the last one, that the next one will be nice and well behaved, like the one's some of the guys post in here sometimes.

''oh yeah, sure I've had mine for 3yrs and only had to replace the wipers blah blah  )

Taking into account all the usual checks - Full VWSH, recent service, inside/outside in good nick, I'd always keep an eye out for these three items been ticked off:

Heater Matrix replaced

ABS Light working properly

And proof of all chains/belts having been fixed

Then I reckon it's ''lap of the Gods' time

My advice would be spend 4k on a minter, instead of 2k on a slightly neglected one that needs work. If only I could turn back time :(

I'd agree with that 100%

does this rule apply if the car is advertised for 4k, but I get it for say 3,600? Am I ok?

Or do I have to spend 4k on the car - ie car was for sale at say 4,500 :confused4:

Your bang on though - getting a cheap VR is a recipe for disaster. I'm planning on spending similier figure on as near mint as poss.

What do you call cheese that isn't yours?

Nacho cheese

Thought I'd add to this thread could the ECU relay also cause the dreaded Corrado stalling when coming to a stop (starts straight away) and off I go. I have changed all the usual suspects MAF, Camshaft sensor, Idle valve sensor. I know there are various links to this problem and when I had the engine rebuilt the car drove brill with no stalling for a good year but it has developed again. I thou am not selling :luvlove: it too much and can live with its slight misdemeanour.

could be just a s simple as cleaning teh throttle body, or adjusting the dashpot underneath, or cleaning the ISV. Quick, easy and FREE!

I am not that mechanically minded are all these easy to do i.e removal & refitting. What am I looking for and what cleaning fluid if any would I use. Excuse my ignorance what is the dashpot

Ozowan- The ISV is next to the throttle body, its a metal cylindrical shaped piece - you will have to remove the rear most engine plastics to see it. It has 2 plugs attached to it and i held on by a rubber ring shaped piece that it slides into. Simply remove both plugs and slide it out of the rubber holder. Once done you need to lever the valve open with a flat head screw driver and spray some carb cleaner in there - would be good to leave it to soak for a while.
