dgtvr6 0 Posted November 2, 2009 All Having a corrado is great and all that but it really is quite squeeky with the odd rattle now that it is getting on a bit. What do people recommend to try and battle the internal noises?
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted November 2, 2009 Step 1 - Make sure all clips and screws are present. Many get lost and not replaced when taking interiors apart. Step 2 - Isolate where the squeaks / rattles are coming from and line the rubbing surfaces with something soft! Johh Lewis sell big rolls of self adhesive felt, costs £8 a meter which does a great job. Also, get friendly with your VAG dealer as they often have VAG foam strips and associated noise damping materials kicking around in the store room. Probably for fixing the odd "Squeaky dash" job that comes in!
Jim 2 Posted November 2, 2009 I think that would be the definitive answer! :)
herisites 0 Posted November 2, 2009 Kev's the man with the plan! His interior is virtually silent, I couldn't believe it when I first went in it, I thought it was a different car!
MarkFoster 0 Posted November 2, 2009 That's because the whistle from the turbo drowns everything out!
Yandards 0 Posted November 3, 2009 I will add that on the clip front that some clips are really single use only, the ones with the 'teeth' that hold the upper A pillar and boot surround trims don't go back on a second time around and will cause some rattles. Main reason most Corrados rattle is alarm fitters or dodgy stereo mods as the trim never gets put back properly.
fla 9 Posted November 3, 2009 the other things is that teh dash is modular, rather than a single piece so there is lots of dash flex and panel flex which you can often hear too. I found the clock surround used to vibrate over bumps - put some Damplifier on teh top and bottom parts, plus some foam below it on the metal frame. Stopped that one but now you notice tjhe others. Its a slow process and done by elimination. May just be worth covering all of teh trims with some of the self adhseive felt as mentioned above, plus watching out for plastics overlap. If you have leather, this will also squeak in cold weather, although you can use some talc for this.
Supercharged 2 Posted November 3, 2009 Just to re-enforce what Yan says about single use, also many clips originally had a ring off felt round them from new but almost every car I have broken / had bits off has had these missing on every other clip. £50 on all new plastic clips and some felt does wonders! Supercharged 2 Posted November 3, 2009 Yep - I have just bought about 3 cars worth of everthing, all still available.
dgtvr6 0 Posted November 3, 2009 Yep - I have just bought about 3 cars worth of everthing, all still available. Now, in the interest of embarrasing myself... Do you have the part numbers? Also, why did you order 3 cars worth? What are you doing building a C just from ancillary parts?
Jim 2 Posted November 3, 2009 Steve is the ultimate hoarder... if he sees a part at a good price, or if he knows a part is going to be obsolete he'll buy it! :)
Supercharged 2 Posted November 3, 2009 I bought them becuase I was running out - going to rebuild the TDI with them and hopefully make it as solid and rattle free as the G60! I can't really list the part numbers as it was part of an £1200 TPS order but you bassically want Clips for the rear door cars, pillar trims, interior sill trims , badge grommets, felt tape plus any missing screws, cover caps, broken trim parts etc.
fla 9 Posted October 18, 2013 I have heard there is some spray that can be used on leather to stop squeaks - apparently used quite widely in more premium car garages. Perhaps its proprietary, but if not does anyone know of a 'normal' alternative?
