Recaro Vs Standard

Im interested in knowing the difference not just in Type but in substance as well between the two (having only ever used or seen standard seats). Apart from the tilt levers on both sides of each seat, electric recline and height adjustment and possibly heating elements are the recaro's "more comfortable" or is this something that only ones bum could distinguish for certain?

 

If it helps i would prefer to discuss the standard leather trim (i know you can get cloth recaro's but I eventually wont a leather interior)

 

so... is there any great benefits to be had from the Recaro's in comparison to the factory fitted standard seats? at a glance they seem to be similar in shape :shrug:

i thought they were definitely more comfortable but ironically for a "performance" seat maker they dont hold you in the seat as well since they are wider with less upright bolsters.

IMO the standard cloth seats are the best for thigh support and they're bloody comfortable too. I've done 5-6 hour, and longer, non-stop drives several times and I've never got a back ache or any other discomfort, which is amazing considering they don't have adjustable lumbar support!

 

I've been on shorter journeys in other people's Recaros (cloth and leather) and they're not my bag. The boltsters aren't as supportive, but no less comfortable overall I'd say. I'd take the cloth Recaros over the leather ones any day of the week. They look better and the cloth grips you better.

 

The MK2 Golf Recaros are the ones to get, or RS Escort if you can find some in decent enough condition.

If i was to defiantly get the leather, would i still go for the recaro? Im not interested in the fancy electronics after all as my car doesnt have it at the mo... would just leave me with more work to do. But if there is improved comfort... but by your description Kev if be better off staying with the standard seats...

i think it depends on your frame as to which seat you prefer though, case of sitting down. one of the nicest jobs to do :lol:

Hmmmm... that is a bit of a snag then, which reminds me of the day me, Pat McCrotch and Heresites swapped cream leather into a black cloth car and vice versa! Every damn little bit of plastic and trim is a different colour, took bloody ages, never again!!

im sticking with my standard leather then always liked the look of recaros though but if they arnt as comfy i will stick with mine :D

I've had cloth recaros, cloth standards, and leather standards - never had leather recaros.

 

I would agree with dukest and Kev with regards to the standard cloth seats being the comfiest - they definitely grip you much more than leathers. Recaros are still very comfy, I think they're lighter and they look better IMO, as well as the electric adjustment and the *RARE111!!* factor, that's why they fetch a premium.

 

I prefer leathers ultimately because they make the car feel a bit more refined/posh/grown up to me :camp:

well... there is no leather ATM. I'm planning on splurging out on a bespoke leather interior fitted by a company up here in Snotland. they'll take the interior that i have and re-upholster it. sooo, ill have to paint the plastics and trim to match anyway. I should avoid the problems you had with colour matching!! :lol:

For the price that Recaro's cost they are not worth it. I had heated black leather Recaro's in the car and the standard cloth seats I replaced them with are just as good.

I'm a cloth fan I think. I've only driven a C with cloth seats but I have recently driven a 2007 Passat Highline and a 2007 Passat Sport. The Highline may have had the heated leathers but the deep cloth seats in the Sport are much much nicer.

For example I have Audi S3 heated electric leather seats and they are so comfy, especially as you get a lumber control as well. They have a wide range of adjustment and will basically lower right down to the floor if you're tall or want a low driving position!

 

Well recommended. I've not heard of another Corrado with them fitted.

Had standard leather (heated), standard cloth and cloth recaros.

 

The only difference in terms of comfort has already been covered between cloth Vs leather Vs recaros, although the electric adjustment on the recaro does allow you to sit lower than standard seats do; this stops me scuffing my head on the sunroof trim so that's nice..

I'm also 6'2", when the S3 Recaro's get wound down I'm no where near the rooflining. Prob got 3" or 4" clearance.

I've had standard cloth, TT seats and now cloth recaro's. Not really much difference in support between standard and the recaro's, it's not like every corner I take is flat out though so I guess I can get away with the not so supportive recaro's. :D

I did take every corner flat out on the leather Recaro's and they hold fine, they are not as supportive as the standard seats but they are perfectly fine still, they are much more ergonomically supportive though, the back shape helped me out alot, i always used to get back ache in standard seats b ut the recaro just hold and support your back so much better and i stepped out the car the same as i went in, ache free after long journeys.

 

So as you can see from all the replies there are arguments for and against all the seats, it really is personal preference.

I have standard beige heated leather in one and cloth recaro's in the other. I feel the seats are styled the same but I would agree with previous comments in the fact that the recaros have better back support, but having the heated seats on 5 does the same for my lower back troubles. My only gripe is the summer sitting on hot leather isn't that great. If I could only keep one it would probably be the recaro's. Saying that I do agree that having leather does seem to make the Corrado more upmarket.

havent drove in recaro seats but sat in them, they dont feel much different to me? and i have normal and leather and do like the cloth seats for daily driving i must admit... but if i had to have one i would still choose the leather :lol:

6"2 for me as well, hence the head to roof lining problem on the standard seats.

 

If you can wait until BVF in July I might have the car with the recaros in on the road, I can always pick you up if you fancy going.

I've had Recaro seats in two cars, but not in the C - yet :)

 

I had a Cavalier SRi in '83, Recaro seats as standard. They were pretty damn good, very comfortable and supportive. Drove from the South of France to Calais in, virtually, one hop at the end of a fortnight's holiday. Then home to East Anglia once we docked in Dover. So about 900 miles in all. Got home on the Sunday evening, at work early Monday morning with no aches at all - mind you, I was a bit younger then :)

 

Had an Escort RS2000 ( not the Turbo ) in '92 - now those Recaros were extremely supportive and had both front and back height adjustments, not seen that on any other car.

 

My C has the normal cloth seats, which are ok, but I've acquired a pair of Recaros from an Evo2 which I aim to have a go at fitting once the weather warms up a bit.
