Does seem to be a lull at the moment, perhaps all the corrados are working perfectly, or all on sorn?

It is quiet, a lot of the old names i remember don't seem to be around. Id imagine some must have sold up.. I was wondering what had happened to some of their cars..

Yes and no. I think most forums suffer from the loss of the novelty value now that they are mor or less the norm. From what I see, a couple of thing s happen - lots of knowledge is imparted, but not well documented (i.e. through tagging of threaads). This means when a new person comes along as asks a question, they often get tutted at for not searching (even tho they may have done and cannot ssearch for things like 'vr6 abs' or use the 'wrong' term like secondary watr pump in stead of aux wter pump, or even auxiliarry water pump). The other 'prblem' is that forums become slightly cliquey (not always in a bad way i hasten to add), but this can make it hard for a new person to feel at home, esp if there re lots of in-jokes.

 

So whilst it my be a bit quiet here, I find most forums are the same. Fortunately this is one of the more 'car focussed' forums, where people are true enthusiasts who want to understand their cars and keep them going without just flinging it in a garage.

Only in relation to the reducing number of Corrados on the road, back in 2007 there were around 4850 Corrados either on the road or SORN in the UK, as of 2012 that number stands at around 2700 on the road so with a good few parked up in storage and folks using them less for daily commuting there will be a drop off.

 

The section of the forum that is dying is performance tuning, the car is getting too old and there are faster, newer cheaper things to play around with now. But that's just the way of things with classic cars...

I seem to get everything I need from it - great advice, friendly banter, spare parts ultimately leading to constant improvements to my C. I agree with Jamie, out of all the forums I've used, this one is in fact very 'car-focused' which totally works for me. It helps that it isn't full of d*ckheads, there's a lot of clued up people on here. Only been using the forum for a year so can't vouch for how it's changed over the years

 

Posted stuff on here before which saw replies in half an hour! I'd say that's pretty good

As said earlier, it seems to be happening across alot of forums. I used to be able to sit and read interesting posts on various forums through the evening till I went to bed, now I've run out of things to read by 9.

 

As the cars get fewer so the people on here will fall, I sure the 'kids in corsa's' forum is buzzing

Its naturally going to get quieter here as the number of owners falls, particularly during the winter months as cars get stored until spring. Also most information can be found by searching so there arent so many discussions that are needed.

Andi said recently that he gets a ridiculous number of unique visitors to the site each month... so I think the place is still pretty busy, perhaps with lurkers? But I would expect a continual decline in userbase given the limited number of Corrado's left on the road, as more and more get written off or just broken for parts.

As a new member on any forum you are either wanting information on your car (which this forum caters for tenfold) or want to meet like minded enthusiasts, which is where this forum then fails; as to attend any shows you are politely told that you can not unless you are a paid up member of CCGB.

 

I dare say that this forum could fill a seperate club stand at any of the shows thus giving the opportunity for new forum members to meet in person.

 

Just an observation and I dare say there will be strong replies from CCGB members !!!!!

I was thinking the other week we seem to have lots of new members signing up.

 

I do sometimes see a lack of advice in some threads. I know most of us have been there and done that and the solutions may seem obvious to us. But no harm in repeating ourselves. It's not all the time.. but I feel some of us. Me included. Assume someone else will sort it out.

It's a fair point and it comes up on a regular basis - and no, it won't get strong replies (at least from me).

 

The problem the forum has is apathy - people expect to sign up and have someone else do the organising for them. There's only a handful of members on here who actually bother to do this for other members - e.g. 8vMatt who sorted out the headlight switch group buy.

 

The organisation of the CCGB is different in so much as we have someone who's "job" (though I like to point out, as committee members we don't actually earn a penny!) is to book club stands for shows and handle all the correspondence and paperwork which that entails. And the CCGB has money so is able to book events that might, for example, require some money up front. Or things like the National Day where we all went to Brooklands to park on the famous banked circuit - which was no small charge for the club.

 

I speak as someone on the committee of the CCGB and as a moderator on here - if people want to book stands for the forum, GREAT - go for it. But the majority of people can't be bothered unfortunately.

Nah, just the fact that forums and their members in general don´t manage to put on or organise attendance at shows, full-stop.

Only the stricter organisation of a club can pull off things like regular shows, because people are more committed and dedicated. Forums are good for banter (leading to socialising, meeting new people - BUT where do you ultimately meet these new-found friends in the flesh? At shows! Who organises them? ... ;) ) and sometimes (very dangerous or unprofessional ) tech-tips (I rely on my Bentley. lots of common sense engineering knowledge, and the CCGB tech gurus instead).

Not wanting to prove you wrong and having attended shows organised by yourself I totally agree with the above comments........But this year I organised the Club Stand for the MK2 Golf Owners Club at Tatton Park and will be doing the same next year. I suppose it totally depends on personalities, as while I have no 'Technical Knowledge' to offer I am more than happy to do my bit for a forum in helping to arrange Club Stands.

I actually think we're doing alright at the moment. Theres defo been some quiet patches, but a couple of days back there were loads of new threads!

Last nights downtime was slightly frustrating - more so that the twitter feed isnt being used very much when there is downtime now!

 

On the subject of ccgb membership and clubstand invitation, i had a conversation with Cazza at a recent meet regarding allocation of space.

My view is instead of a hard and fast rule that you must be a member to take a space, a more relaxed approach of members first, reserve list for non members would see places filled. The non members can then be bullied/shamed into joining once they get there :lol:

Id say this is the best forum ive been on and compared to other forums its more fun and knowldege based that just tech stuff, and you all cant moan about meets i booked a campsite for a **** up and meet and you all dropped me in it with washing ya hair or organising ya stamp collection :lol:,i would of never sold my rado and been a club memeber myself if vw,s werent an expensive pain in the arse to tune hehe

I can honestly say this forum is one of the better ones,i,ve had nothing but great advice,loads of help,and probably why i still have my corrado.Unlike other forums i have never

witnessed or received any form of"keyboard warrior" activity,my corrado is a daily driver,so will continue to seek help from members.

Think due to it being this time of year there is a lull with forum activity.I know in my case the search is a option but it,s great to get help of a member without getting told to go to Search!!There are some real characters on the forum who make me laugh when reading posts.So no complaints from me

Sorry about the spelling, it was 2.37 in the morning and I'd just got in from a heavy night out :drinking:

 

Anyway, back to my post, it just seems a lot quieter on here these days, only one new post in the parts for sale section since last night as an example and as Goldie said, a lot of the old regular names aren't around much these days

Personally i doesnt bother me if someone asks a question and its been repeated.. After all there are only a certain amount of things that can be asked.. I don't think newer members should be persecuted for not using the search...

 

It is hard to contribute (or i found it difficult) if you aren't a custodian of a Corrado and that will probably explain the quietness of some of the old names...
