VW XL1 to go into production...

Recommended Posts

I like it but personally I'd sacrifice a few mpg to not have the enclosed rear wheels. Don't like them.

My thoughts exactly - I absolutely hate the enclosed wheels.

Looks like every other electric concept that every other manufacturer has "drawn up". If they do bring it into production, I can guarantee that it will look nothing like this.

I know nothing about aerodynamics but I'd presume that open wheel arches cause drag... so closing them off helps reduce it?

I was wondering if the enclosed wheels are to accommodate clever things on both sides of the wheel. Regeneration thingys and such.

Even if, in the real world it only achieves half there quoted 280 mpg thats still impressive

Think it looks great for an eco car, expect it will cost a bomb tho

Aerodynamics, see the original Honda insight.

looks like vw have lopped yet another cylinder of their Diesel engines to do this though :) essentially what you have is a turbo diesel 2cv, only less practical
