Type-R police car!!?!?

Recommended Posts

I just spent the weekend in Vancouver and look what I saw parked up one day.

It's not quite as cool/sad as it first seems, it's not a 200bhp Type-R, rather the lesser 140bhp SiR. It also says 'School liason officer' on the side, so presumably it's just so they can go 'hey kids cops are cool mmkay'

:D

We have an unmarked police car around in Coventry which is a black Accord Type-R! The only thing that gives it away are the little blue lights hidden in the grille on the bonnet and the big bloke in the body armour driving it ;)

The police up towards skipton have had all kinds of speedy cars over the years, all marked. Escort cosworth first, then impreza and also an evo7 - all stickered up with lights too. Heh. They used to patrol the skipton bypass.

Once a black unmarked old shape integra type-r turned up to a cruise in Blackpool years ago too. Main give-away was the two blokes sat inside with uniforms on (under their coats tho)

Good to see that the taxpayers money is being well spent :( Did someone on here not say a while back about an unmarked FERRARI being used or did I dream that one up?

I remember reading years ago in "LaxPowder" about a Porsche police car-it was marked though-takes the fun out of it.

Cheers Fraser

hhey guys... here's that Canadian Content I can supply

that Civic is part of the "Pacer" program... it more or less goes to meets and promotes racing, but safely on tracks rather than streets. Vancouver has a VERY high asian population and street racing in the past has been a problem.

The Civic SiR is the meanest civic we see on our shores. No Type R has ever been available here, and no Skyline either. Actually Mitsubishi (as Mitsubishi) only started selling cars in Canada 1.5 years ago.

Around Toronto Ontario, Canada. Cops have been known to turn siezed cars into the fleet. Many cars have turned into undercover cars in this respect, most notably, a 2003 Audi RS6. The don't sticker them because they are not reinforced. and in the event of impact, they don't take it as well. Toronto has a fleet of Chevrolet Camaro Z28s and Corvettes for the 401, one of the major highways in the country. This is nothing compared to Texas, where they have been known to have Saleen tuned Mustangs, Dodge Viper GTRs, and a few Porsche 911TTs.

It was in Top Gear mag a couple of months back - think it was a metallic blue 550 or 575m.

as fun as these cars must be for the police to belt about in, I just dont see the point. Having a powerful car implys they're planning some high speed persuits which IIRC they were trying to cut down on. To be honest I'd rather my tax went towards a helecopter, reguardless of your motor you're not going to outrun that! Obviously you need some ground based police to pick the occupants of the car up after they realise theres no escape, but really, evo's??

I know where you're coming from chrishill, but the £N thousand for an M3 doesn't go very far in buying helicopters...

As for £20k scoobies, they're cheap as chips by comparison. Buy ten, it's still not going to buy you a decent police chopper, and it'll certainly not pay for the fuel/insurance/pilot training/maintenance required to keep it in the air every year.

tbh i reckon that was more for PR picture purposes.............in the early 90's most of the police forces used a Jaguar XJ220 just for the same PR purpose.........as i had a poster  of one with our local Police force stickers on it........they just put on and off the stickers to suit each Police force that patricipated in the PR exercise,it also IIRC had a number plate like K999JAG

Yeah this one was for you chimo :D lol. I was surprised by the number of mental Jap import type cars in Vancouver, all with street racing website stickers in the windows too :o

It's quite good the police are making an effort, but they really should have gotten a Type-R imported specially :D

See you on the 28/29th ;) I'm getting excited already and I don't even have a C yet lol.
