coullstar 0 Posted November 4, 2014 Loved them, remember watching them live. F1 isnt exciting, but i still maintain its a must see for any petrolhead.
robrado974 1 Posted November 4, 2014 I'm a big racing fan over many formats. But for me, if you want big plums and hard racing, the most exciting is motorbikes. Some of the motoGP can be a bit of a procession but the British Superbikes and the Supersports championships are so close it often comes down to last laps! [video=youtube_share;RoZZ9I8DhLw] Just watched this , damn good riding !
GrahamU 6 Posted November 4, 2014 I must admit, for the pinnacle of motorsport, all the new rules are not making it better and are costing the little teams a fortune. We supply TPMS to most of the grid and for next year the FIA have made a new rule for the size/height of the wheels sensor so its not above the bead line, that means a re-design of our sensor which will cost thousands in testing to be sure it doesn't break under the g-forces acting on it. Kevin Bacon 5 Posted November 5, 2014 I would love to have seen the group B rally monsters with my own eyes. Top fuel drag cars are another must see / hear in the flesh. These days, I'd be happier just touring the paddocks and looking at the kit. A bit like Guy Martin's Pikes Peak attempt. Seeing him turbo his bike engine is far more interesting that watching it on the road. It's the same as football. Watching it is dull as schitt, but actually playing it is good. Speaking of Group B........oddly the guy i purchased my VR from over derby way had a mint Lancia Stratos in his garage, a lovely red colour with gold wheels & the black bar thing that goes over the top I really wish i had taken some more time to look at it, or ask him for a quick ride in it but i was that focused on buying my VR that it didnt enter my head until a few days after lol

Kevin Bacon 5 Posted November 5, 2014 I bet that Stratos is worth a few bob now!! Yeah the 6R4s were epic and a very misunderstood car! "A Metro??! Are you serious?" Yep, very! It's as much a Metro as the Escort Cosworth is erm, an Escort, lol! Yeah it's the S1s on anti-lag as they slid round the corners I missed. I was too young to see it before they banned it unfortunately.
Portent 0 Posted November 6, 2014 Group B was fantastic and really massive at it's peak. There is a documentatry about it somewhere which is worth watching. Spectators used to try and touch the cars as they went past. Madness. It's on DVD but occasionally appears on the BBC too: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Madness-Wheels-Group-Rallyings-Years/dp/B007PQP8R2 VAG in F1 could be interesting and they could change to a different part of the group each year depending on their prospects... start with Skoda then move all the way up until they are Porsche during their wins :)

WHOA!!!! a few bob indeed Kev - just seen this from 2013 http://rmauctions.com/lots/lot.cfm?lot_id=1061007 over £350K!!! that has now got me wondering if they guy had a real one or a replica lol & found a cracking schematic of the 6R4 http://www.optical3d.com/wp-content/files_mf/1340181054metrolayout.jpg i was too young to see the group B in person too so places like shelsley really are worth going to ive still not managed to see one of the other legends of the time, the ford RS200....maybe one day :)
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted November 6, 2014 Probably a replica I reckon! 410hp from a 2.9 V6 in the 80s is awesome! Clarkson and Chris Harris have videos on youtube of the RS200 and by all accounts, it was a dreadful car

I would love a go on that, whilst being thankful that your not looking at the mantlepiece whilst poking the fire.
