Wayne2015 10 Posted February 16, 2015 My garage has just mentioned best to change the discs + pads too! Another £300???? GLUP! :( Sean! I have asked garage to change the CLUTCH SLAVE CYLINDER. As my clutch is sticking too as said by RAC man. Though Still wonder what is the EXACT cause of me NOT able to put gear stick into gear? The day i picked up my Corrado, stuck in heavy traffic for 20mins, riding/holding clutch at biting point in traffic... ...does that REALLY heat up transmission and not let u put into gear? Or that something MORE serious? Not happened since (as i always put in neutral at stops now)... Something inflicting older manual gears? Not modern gears??? Sean_Jaymo 0 Posted February 16, 2015 £300 for brakes? I hope you dropped your pants and they never tore them down! Gear selection troubles could be a dodgy slave or master cylinder, a bad release bearing or a pretty worn clutch. Start with the cylinders! The 02a box is quite bomb proof on the whole. It tends to be diffs that are the first thing to go once they get up to very high miles and that's just a nasty noise and not a selection issue. If you're that concerned, an oil change is a quick job and can only improve things.

Just ocassional crunch in 1st gear (not 2nd) Car will have oil/filter change. RAC man said clutch biting point is fine - no need to change clutch. I just GUESS £300 - as is it not standard price about £100 per pads (supply/fit)? So if change front pad/disc £150? Then times 2 = £300 in total? seanl82 23 Posted February 16, 2015 Yeah probably a cylinder problem. Your holding the clutch down but it's loosing hydraulic pressure until the next pump, so slave change is quickest and easiest (read cheapest) place to start. Brakes parts are probably £150 ish, so that's 2-3 hours labour at £50-75 per hour which is maybe a little pricey, but not over the top I suppose. Mk3highline 10 Posted February 16, 2015 £40 hour in Bradford is a bit expensive? I used to live about 20min from Bradford Whilst your car is at the garage ask them to do a compression test on the engine, if your struggling to keep up with a valver there might be a bigger issue with the engine mate I compression test will see if you have low/ equal pressure being built inside the engine What brand discs and pads are they using? You can get ferodo pads for around £120 I thinks

As bills adding up - I might take the pad/discs to a cheaper garage as simple job :)

Wayne2015 10 Posted February 16, 2015 Plans have changed !!! As costs are adding up :( My usual plans of ONLY using a SPECIALIST, AND service all parts for piece of mind (full service including timing chain) - Will now change to: 1. Timing chain is fine, no noises etc 2. Maybe using a cheaper garage for bog standard jobs (disc/pads) 3. For piece of mind: WILL replace timing chain GUIDES/TENSIONERS only - and Door handle repair kit (Daves16) 4. I still want to enjoy my VR6: - so get Stealth for small remap - Short Shift (Daves16) - Upgrade Headlight looms (James) 5. Potentially sell later in the year :( :( :( Think this is a good financial AND enjoy-VR6 approach?

Mk3highline 10 Posted February 16, 2015 It would be a shame to already be thinking of departing Try RS tuning in Leeds they may be able to help with seeing if your losing power/how well the engine is running
Wayne2015 10 Posted February 16, 2015 It would be a shame to already be thinking of departing Try RS tuning in Leeds they may be able to help with seeing if your losing power/how well the engine is running I was under the impression RS Tuning is more expensive than Stealth? What u think? Take it to Stealth to do chain guides/tensioners + remap? Or to RS Tuning? Though Leeds is only 20miles from me ...
Mk3highline 10 Posted February 16, 2015 Sorry I ment for a power run on the dyno to see how the engine is running before you spend more money No point waiting till Easter to get to stealth only to find out your down on lots of power What kind of mileage has the car got? How much will dyno run cost? If power down is it not better to remap to extract more power? 122k Original chain (i guess) No mods except cone filter, coilovers
Mk3highline 10 Posted February 16, 2015 Basically if it's down on a lot of power there is something wrong I've been under the impression an ok maintained vr6 still make good power And a remap won't help if there is a problem with an engine internally I think rst charge between £50-60 for dyno runs double check, It will help you Prepare your self financially for Easter trip to stealth if your down on power

Mk3highline 10 Posted February 16, 2015 £25 I think for 1st March but you will need to register on vr6oc first mate

Wayne2015 10 Posted February 16, 2015 It probably cost £50 in fuel though lol Lol I was trying to work it out myself U see I am surprised my car can do 100+ miles with 1/2 tank of fuel On different roads. Now it has a 77litre tank What do one usually get from full tank on mostly city and A roads?
