sick of sky

Recommended Posts

evening guys, hope everyone is keeping well

thought I'd post on here as I trust you guys ( most of the time )

basically, been with sky for over 14 years, at the moment have the family bundle, sports and movies, broadband and calls, this has been slowly creeping up over the last few months, rang sky to ask about reducing my bill, spoke to an " advisor ", who looked at my call history ( this seemed to be bumping the monthly price up ) and advised another calls package to reduced my costs, happy days, got this months statement ,gone up £30, :mad2: , rang sky threatening to cancel, waiting to hear back off a supervisor tomorrow

anyway, looked at options, bt ( don't seem to have the channels ) , virgin TiVo ( not avail in my area ), now tv and android box ( unsure )

question is what are you guys using, any input gladly received, cheers everyone

Left sky last July to go to BT, going back to sky next month. BT calls are horrific if you don't go with free calls 24/7

Just ask for cancellations and they'll cut you a deal to keep you, since I left I've had calls and emails weekly inviting me back with 60% off for 12 months with no contract.

I just turn the tv off and work on car instead. I tend to only watch a handful of channels if i do watch TV. I got sick of adverts and then recaps of the previous 15mins of program that were watching only 2-3mins ago before the advert.

Yeah, same here. I routinely have to call Sky to threaten to leave (went through with it a few years ago) and usually they'll do you a deal. I'm currently on 50% off for 12 months.

all phone calls, line rental, fibre broadband and a basic TV package with a free pvr for £30/month from Talk Talk, I know they don't have the best customer service reputation but I've never had any trouble and have no interest in football so no need to pay a fortune to get sport. I can live without game of Thrones and very occasionally pay a one off few quid for a film on demand.

Happy with just freeview before.

Then joined sky as cash back effectively sky was free for a year.

Cancelled after 12months - but had free sky channels

Now back to sky as moved house and needed a broadband bundle..

£17 a month for 12months (basic TV + phone + unlimited internet)

This price is after: (1) £150 cash back + (2) £75 sky credit + (3) 1/2 price internet + (4) free installation

I'd never pay for anything on television these days, not when you have the internet.

But where else can you find any porn?

Mainstream television is full of porn. Except it's on a less obvious subliminal level. It's what has subverted and demoralised the current and previous generations. And people are still paying for the pleasure.

Once you've got over the initial shock of not having sky you'll start to enjoy East Enders coronation street and the 10'oclock news mate lol

I might be a bit of an outcast here but I don't even have a TV aerial plugged into my TV! I make do with a NowTV box (£5.99/month), and then Netflix and YouTube via a Google Chromecast. I can also get access to iPlayer and 4oD via the NowTV so there's not much I can't watch! I don't really miss having 'broadcast' TV and certainly rarely find anything to watch on Sky whenever I find myself in front of a TV with it!

Been looking to buy a Chromecast for a while.

What's the Chromecast like?

Anyone got an Apple TV box?

I have Sky and only really watch films, F1 and Thrones, but love the HD. now find it very difficult to watch in SD.

As for an Android box, I use an Amazon Fire TV, Great bit of kit, but I have hacked it to run some software called Kodi (free to download) - This talks to the 4TB NAS drive where all my films and music are stored and creates a cover flow setup like you get on iPod but with my DVD covers and synopsis.

Took a lot of setting up, but works well and supports full DTS audio so quite sweet

It will also do all the usual netflix etc without having to hack, all you Amazon content is available on it and Amazon prime is quite good if you want films

I'm considering cancelling Sky. I've had it since the lat 90's but find myself watching less and less TV now. Even my kids, who are glues to their iPad's commented that TV is "old fashioned". Steaming services like Netflix and occaionally renting or buying things on iTunes/Google Play seems to be the way forward now.

We have a chromecast. It would be awesome if it worked reliably, but about half the time it takes about five minutes (while the kids go bezerk) of dicking about resetting apps and disconnecting networks to get anything to play.
