Front End Respray

Recommended Posts

Looking for a ballpark figure to use as a yardstick on a frontend respray.

- Remove wings

- Strip, prime, paint second hand wings (supplied by me)

- Paint bonnet and front bumper

Want the best quality job. So good paint/lacquer with a good depth and insides of the wings coated with some rust preventative.

Car would be delivered with the replacement wings. No prep work done by myself.

Mystic Blue - LC5L

For a top quality re spray I was quoted £200 a panel by KDS in Gillingham, Kent. I'm sure it can be done cheaper, but generally you get what you pay for. I'm sure your Rado deserves the best.

Exactly! Don't want to do a cheapy job. But also don't want to get ripped off. Not in a rush either.

That's seems a good price, KDS look to know what they are doing. The enzo they did looked amazing

Handy for me too. Coming from Germany. Catch the Eurotunnel over and back on Le Shuttle, via Brussels.

Is this them?

With the Chunnel the way it is right now should only take you a couple of days. You might need to check for unwanted passengers too :)

All joking aside, £200 a panel for a very decent quality respray job seems pretty reasonable.

Yeah I think I'll leave this until the Winter :)

If £200 is fair then ok. Maybe I'll just go the whole hog and get the entire car done. I fancy getting Audi door handles and the mirrors totally colour coded too.

Before you rush to them I should point out They are currently very busy, they won't deal with rust and if there are are dents or dings in the panel (which there will be) they charge £55 to remove the first dent and £40 every dent thereafter. When they carried out paint correction on my car they found numerous dents along the flanks caused by careless door opening in car parks.

I am having a couple of small areas of rust on the wings removed, where the wheel arch liners are secured by screws. I am using Pluckley Coachworks, but will get KDS to Carry out paint correction at a later date.

Worth noting Mike that KDS are regarded as one of, if not the best detailers in the UK. Cost for respray per panel seems very reasonable, but worth calling them first and having a good chat, as costs will likely mount up. They have their reputation for a reason though, and with being so well regarded can lead to high prices and long waiting lists. As mentioned, you get what you pay for mate though mate. Is there no one near you then? I'd recommend visiting a few places tbh. Always good to get a feel for the place and the person who is doing the work. You can actually see for your own eyes their work too, as pictures won't show clearly enough the end finish, and a reputable paint shop will be more than happy to show you the quality of their workmanship.

I'm sure there are places near me in Cologne. But this kind of thing is pretty niche in Germany and therefore they charge an arm and a leg, whilst not necessarily doing a good job. I know that's contrary to what you would normally think of Germans. But I was already stung when I had my engine rebuilt over here by "Specialists" and they made a dog's dinner of it. Fitting the wrong sized valves and leading to another costly rebuild at Stealth. So I'd rather deal with people in my native language and who I can get a feel for.

I do know a good paint shop back in Belfast (Home). They've done resprays and other work for many of my friends. But it's a bit of a trek. Kent would be better. Although with the ongoing problems at Calais, maybe it is better to catch the Rotterdam - Hull boat and drive back to N.Ireland.
