Matt GTi 0 Posted June 24, 2004 I was giving my car some beans last night, and as i approached the redline in first and second, my handbrake light flashed on and off. Any ideas why? Perhaps it's a shift light that VW didn't tell us about!

Matt GTi 0 Posted June 24, 2004 To be honest that wouldn't have surprised me!
corradovr6sc 0 Posted June 24, 2004 Could be a low brake fluid level or dodgy sensor on the reservoir cap.
dazzyvr6 0 Posted June 24, 2004 or a low pad wear indicator
daves16v 1 Posted June 24, 2004 or a dodgy handbrake switch.
Henny 0 Posted June 24, 2004 I'd go with low brake fluid... check it and top it up if needed (don't fill it to the top though, as when you next change the pads you'll overflow it as you push the pistons back in! ;)
ben16v 0 Posted June 24, 2004 also if it keeps happening check your clutch slave, thats what mine did first but not on some others on here?!
Linus Van Pelt 0 Posted June 24, 2004 According to Mr Manual... The Warning Lamp comes on when: (1) The Handbrake is on (duh!) (2) The Brake Fluid level is too low (3) With ABS it also indicates that the pressure in the pressure accumalator is too low ...Unless you're in my car where the led is bust  I have the replacement, just not got round to fitting it  DtM. vr6storm 0 Posted June 24, 2004 fi the fluid level is fine..........i'd go with it being a dodgy sender in the cap.......mine did this when i first bougth it......and just gave the plunger a few movements up n down and its not given any problems since
