£5.90 for instrument bulbs WTF

Recommended Posts

Now that I've got my spoiler working again, some of my instrument cluster bulbs are blown.

Rang up the dealers, and they only want £5.90 for each bulb that runs across the top of the cluster and I need all 3.

Where do they get the prices from.

That is all.

Gotta recoup what it's going to cost them for the emissions scandal somehow!

Definitely the most expensive bulbs I've bought for the size of them. Only vw would make them in a strange Base. On the bright side, the two behind the digital parts are a couple of pounds each. Cheap in comparison😤. Oh the Corrado is such a special car with special prices

Those twisty ones? Go on eBay, any colour and think led as well for probably less than £1. My local parts shop didn't have any of those on but had the bulbs so I just unsoldered old ones out and new ones in

Those sort of things they probably buy from eBay and mark them up 1000% anyway

EBay looks good. I typed in osram and the wattage, think I'll buy spares for the next 20 years and have change left over after what I paid.

I might see if I can get some bulbs from Maplins and try and replace the bulbs.

Don't want to go down the LED route, as I want the green glow to match the rest of the illumination inside

The green glow is just from a green filter strip along the top of the dials. The actual bulbs are white. I'd imagine the light output of LED's would dilute the filter though.

The ones I paid in gold for the 'genuine' items are Osram !!

Thats the other reason for not going down the LED route

I think that's the ones i bought, seemed quite common when i bought some, think they are osram.

Jim, if you could even supply the part number it might help narrowing down the search. VW might be just adding a mark up on them, so might available cheaper elsewhere.

The T509 ones I've seen on ebay are all LED, and look they would have to fit from outside the cluster, as opposed to inside of the cluster like the original ones.

I know you don't want leds but you can get a strip which you can cut to length and only need to solder the connector on to it. You can put any colour filter you like and as they are the small smds the light dispersion is also pretty good. Just a thought..

Just ordered these from eBay,

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/12V-1-8W-Panel-Bulb-Blue-Base-1-Filament-Trade-pack-x10-R86021002-Ring-New-/331911541213?hash=item4d477831dd:g:aJMAAOSwaB5XjAza

The specification matches the current ones, so hopefully should be all good.

If anyone wants to go halves with me, I would be more then happy to send you 5 bulbs for £5.50 posted 1st class.
