Brake servo and master cylinder urgently required

Hi everybody,

Started up my project car: 2.0ltr 16v With abs - K reg, only for it to idle badly and smoke horribly. Found that brake fluid was being sucked into the engine via the vacuum pipe from the servo, master cylinder leaking from the rear seal.

Trying to find a new master cylinder and servo (and pipe) with no success, anybody got any ideas where to get one or second hand units?

Appreciate any help you can give.

Ah! Not good. I suppose thare must be some company that can overhaul thse items , somewhere?

Past Parts can refurbish yours for about £160 i think. I can't get mine out is the problem as I live too far from where my car is stored.

Probably doesn't help, but I have one removed from a K plate Mk3 Golf VR6 with ABS. Will try find out if it's the same.

I don't understand what is so specialised about these bits of kit that makes them unobtainable......

 

The holes that attach the master to the servo are on the slant, so you need a master to suit the ****ed up studs on the servo limiting options and from a suppliers point of view sales are limited. You cant swap the servo for a more conventional set up as you need the hole for the pedal position sensor unique to our crappy ABS set up

The part number for the abs models is 358611019D which is 23.81mm. The smaller 22mm has a very similar part number so be sure to check if you come across one.

Seasons Greetings and all that, I have had a look at my master cylinder and there is a yellow plaque with two numbers on it a shorter one on top and a longer one below that. Do you know which one might be the part number? Cheers Rob

Been mentioned already, but if you're really stuck, Past Parts will refurbish your existing master cylinder. They bore it out and re-sleeve it with stainless steel. It was the only reliable option I could find for my VR6 bearing in mind that all Corrados are over 20 years old now and the VR6 master cylinder, at least, is obsolete from VW.

Hi mate, i’ve Got one from someone else on the forum, the servo part number is ok, but there are two numbers on the master one matches mine but the other doesn’t so just trying to make sure, as there so many different ones. Cheers and merry Christmas, Rob

I've been trying to find a replacement brake master cylinder for my Corrado 2.0 16v,

I phoned my local VW Dealer and they checked all the dealerships in the UK,

but all sold out now, they said the brake master cylinder for ABS went obsolete in 2010,

there were a few left up until about 2012,

but like I say they're all gone now.

 

Apparently the Brake master cylinder for ABS was originally £350 new from VW

 

Amazingly VW still stock the NONE ABS master cylinder for the Corrado cost is £270

But only have a few left.

 

I've managed to get a secondhand master cylinder for ABS off Ebay for about £60

as my original one on my Corrado is showing signs it's on the way out.

 

Because some of you guys have mentioned that you possibly can get it overhauled from a company called PAST PARTS.

I decided to phone them up and spoke to a guy called Richard, he confirmed that they have done a few Corrado master cylinders in the past few years, he told me amazingly that he's got a Corrado master cylinder for ABS already done on the shelf, but that he would need the old unit for exchange, otherwise a surcharge is added on.

 

Richard said to overhaul the Corrado master cylinder for ABS is £105 + VAT

 

Also he said they can overhaul the original clutch master cylinder for £65 + VAT

 

Apparently they rebore out the master cylinder and fit a stainless steel sleeve, so they're still able to fit the original size seal kit.

Plus they will powder coat the master cylinder in black so it looks OEM, but this is optional if you want the OEM look or not.

 

Time wise he said roughly about 2 to 3 weeks as they are very busy at the moment.

Basically when you send your old item to them, add a note of what you want them to do and your own address, and when completed they'll phone you to let you know your item is on it's way back.

I had mine done by them a few months back now and they were really good. I spoke to someone called Nigel on the phone who was exceptionally knowledgable, we spoke for a good 20 minutes or so. We even ran into a few issues with the master cylinder I sent to them which they sorted out quickly a well. Generally I think they were awesome and the only criticism would be that the powder coating they did could have been better, it is a little patchy in places. Everything else they nailed.

Just had a phone call from Past Parts,

my overhauled master cylinder is now ready,

so should be getting it back on Monday 1st October 2018.

They've been delayed doing the job as had to wait for another batch of the seal kits to come in.

 

Cost is £109 + VAT £21.80 + Postage £6.59

= Total £137.39

This was for a 2.0 16v one.
