Corrado to Audi TT mk2 swap

Recommended Posts

Had a crazy idea:

As the Audi tt mk2 (2006) has the same wheel base as the corrado VR6 (93-96)...

Has anyone ever considered a body swap of a corrado body and interior to a tt donor chassis and drivetrain?  Yes, there would be some frame modification to fit doors and roof, but you'd have an AWD conversion without having to trouble shoot electronics, transmission, engine and drivetrain retrofits.

As I have both the VR6 and 3.2 TT Mk2 parked alongside each other in the garage I’ve just dropped a tape measure across them. You’d have trouble making the width up, the TT is 200mm wider across its track than the Corrado!

Not to mention wheel size to keep the gearing correct

Why a TT in particular?  Any MK5 platform car will do.  The 4WD kit is easy to bolt onto a FWD MK5 platform but an R32 base would be a good start.  You can play around with track width using different front and rear knuckles.  Golfs have the narrowest track.  TT and Scirocco have the widest track because they have much more arch space to accommodate longer control arms and/or wider knuckles.  MK5s use an ET51 wheel, which will also reduce the track by around 20mm compared to a Corrado's wheel offset.

Either way, you will definitely need some flared arches regardless!

If you're also planning on using the more modern drivetrain to go with the chassis, then a 02Q diesel box will balance out the small wheels shortening the gearing.....or why not go diesel DSG?  Swapping cogs manually is so last year!

I measured the wheelbase of the wife's Up! the other week and that was bigger than the Corrado so A TT would be overhanging out the front, rear and sides
