New owner - 95 Aqua blue VR6

Recommended Posts

The brands to go for are ATE or TRW , I cant remember the oe brand but from memory its not  ATE  surprisingly.

For manual looks like there is no variation in all variants and age rhd/lhd - Part number 357721261A I cant remember but think the OE might be FTE

Im pretty sure someone purchased a Sachs one and the thread was the incorrect size.

Now the Master cylinder is a different story.

So Valeo now owns FTE .

So this looks like the OE one - can see FTE on it.   VALEO 874757

Not sure why there are 2 options on the autodoc site for the same part number ???

Yeah. It was definitely old enough to be original. It’s a common enough part across the VW/Audi range, so they probably just used whatever supplier stock was available l, be it ATE, TRW or FTE. Mist of the other hydraulic components are ATE anyway.

The ATE and FTE do look the same unit and manufacture looking at the pictures of them.

Blue box - ATE written on it In white, exactly the same part and fits like a glove.

I’ll try to dig it out tomorrow.

I don’t think it’s that important if the parts are of equivalent quality, and ATE is used all over the car.

Sure I would use both but I avoid the sachs one though unless your willing to by a new pipe off Hel Performance- pretty sure someone had an issue with one- of course I imagine Heritage have a Topran one for the price of a quality one so I would avoid them to ha,.

Haha. Agreed. For me, topran = notran, or also ran. Have been stung a few times, and would never buy again - in fairness Heritage should not be selling them, or at least give a quality indicator the way GSF used to do.

Thanks for the pointers and PNs guys, I'm waiting on a few bits to arrive before I update on fixes. A job for this week is fit the new rad switch, but the weather is pants down here!

Another question whilst I remember, my PCV system has been replaced with a K&N style filter as you've seen from the previous image, where the inlet isn't blocked off.. my question is, is there a kit available to route this back into the inlet boot? I've seen 42 Draft Designs do a rather pricy kit (https://www.urotuning.com/products/42-draft-designs-mk3-vr6-pcv-fix-42-130-010) but it's out of stock everywhere and there must be a simpler solution. It's quite irritating seeing it smoke out the bonnet on idle and getting fumed out when I've got my blower fan on.

Buy this and buy the other bits of hose from the car factors.

Sorted the hose for PCV using the above part, thanks for the heads up.

Also rewired the fans so that they both spin together, rather than independently depending on stage.

Now, with my weird engine braking sensation I've done a vagcom scan and nothing comes up. No meaningful errors found.. today though, it was worse than ever when cold.

This time though, every time it happened harshly I could hear the fuel pump buzz afterwards.

The relay looks new, but is clearly aftermarket. I'm going to try and get another one and check the plugs on fuel tank. Does anyone else have any other suggestions other than pump?

Any suggestions on where to get a relay and if required, a new pump?

Here is the OE 4 bar fuel pump- note if you have an early Peiburgh pump you will need a new sender as well.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/154565930138?epid=249319123&hash=item23fcd8ec9a:g:mIMAAOSwBLlVdxSb

You will see other options the Bosch one is actually 3 bar even though advertised as 4 bar.

Ignore it says G60 only its correct for VR as well .

Fuel relay

I would buy this. From memory its number 109 - so check.

Thanks Keyo, for fuel pump relay I've got relay numbers 80, 67 or 167. That's according to my printout from A2 Resource - CE2 fusebox.

Ordered those two relays, good to have even as spares.

I spoke to Stealth Racing about the weird braking sensation and he reckons it's the "Electronic Diff lock" kicking on randomly. As such, I've disconnected the two front ABS sensors to turn the system off and after a few test drives, I've not encountered the issue.. which may be a fluke but who knows.

There's not a lot of info of the EDL system from what I could find, has anyone got a good source of info or has had issues with EDL before?

EDL is fitted on Corrados with ABS ECU suffixed with an E

1H0 907 379 E

For those who don't know the ecu is located on the passenger side behind the kick panel by the passengers left ankle on RHD UK cars.

The ecu can suffer water ingress

Apart from weird braking effect I can't see any discription of the actual fault?

Occasionally, the car will give an effect which is akin to stamping on the brake pedal and letting go immediately. Sometimes this will be very harsh, sometimes not.

This only happens at lower speeds, typically in second or third on light accelerator.

Damaged wheel sensor causing water ingress.

Air gap between the sensor and reluctor ring - bent / rusty reluctor / rust behind the sensor elongating the air gap.

ECU is being fed duff info causing it to make a correction

Checked in VCDS and used my multimeter to confirm. Both rear speed sensors are knackered by the looks.

Where's the best place to get 2 new sensors and reluctor rings (if it makes sense to replace too)?

Euros is over a 100 quid!
