side repeater seal

Recommended Posts

Just took mine off to clean and the seal has perished.  I've been experimenting with some thin walled silicone tube which fits in but its slightly too thick and wont allow the light to sit properly. Trimming it causes the edges to splay out and they dont do much sealing!

Any other ideas? Mine are clear repeaters, not the orange ones

Thanks

Hasan

What about using heat shrink and piping silicone inside via a syringe?

You mean like creating a silicone-filled tube of heat shrink? That sounds a good idea. I've got some small syringes, just need to see if I've got the right length of heat shrink

Or use neoprene and cut the seal using 2 blades with a distance piece between to cut parallel?

Actually I've got some 1mm neoprene sheet which I'll prob use. Rather than a recessed seal I'll put it over the whole base and seal the recess which held the old seal.

Good ideas there Dox!

i have some Glaswegian blood in me somehow!

I'll have a look on Ebay but for the moment i've used some grey butyl tape, stretched to thin it out and seems to be ok, plus matches the original colour

I’ve found the cheap repeaters off of EBay have like a plastic rubber seal that won’t compress and ended up using the seals from my Oe repeaters which were more foam like.
