    What part??

So just had a phone call off my mechanic after a day of shitty mishaps with my C. Car went into garage to get water pump changed and cam belt on thursday. Yesterday it emerged i needed a new metal coolant pipe, that runs round the engine from the water pump to side of head area, which was no probs ordered one from veedub and was delivered this morning and plan of action was to get car back to me this afternoon. After fitting the new pipe a new problem has come to light. My mechanic explained that water was pissing (his words) out of the aluminium plate the oil filter is screwed into. I think he mentioned it as the oil cooler (could be wrong got myself into a little pap and switched off) which is in the pic below. Anyone tell me if this is the oil cooler so i know what im ordering and if not what it in fact is?? Also anyone know where's best to get this part?? VW?? How much?? (nicked the pic of someone elses post when trying to search for info so credit to original poster etc.)
  4. Cheers guys!! Will be ordering from VAG tomorrow thanks for all help :thumb right:
  5. Rang my local veedub up today for a couple of prices and i know there always quite expensive but think this time they're wanting me arm aswell!! Prices as below with aftermarket in brackets: Cam Belt £25 + VAT (£8.99+VAT) Cam Belt Tensioner £30.83 + VAT (£16+VAT) Alternator Belt £5.55 + VAT (£1.99+VAT Not that bothered about the alt belt will prob just put an aftermarket one in but after reading threads on here genuine cam belt and tensioner is highly recommended. So can anyone shed some light on what i should be paying from the dealers and if these prices are not actually that bad. Thanks in advance Kieran
  6. Got one coming thanks mate. Bought a spare engine and box of a pal who put an s3 engine in his. He put a new pump on when just before he took it out. Cheers though any problems with it i will let you know :)
  7. Cheers will definelty change as much as poss while im in there. You got any part codes for the inner pulley??
  8. Cheers for reply you will do for me!! New water pump me thinks!! :)
  9. My car has been losing water for a week or two now and initially thought i had found the problem in the water flange (on side of head). Unfortunately shortly after i still needed to top up fairly regular and on start up my engine has a knockin/tappetty noise even on very hot days. Today i have a new noise coming from round the alternator/water pump area which is like a spining whoosh/whining noise when i have been driving for say 5 or 10 mins. When i turn the engine off it sounds like the pump winding down to a holt. Is the water pump the culprate and if it is faulty will it be causing the knockin/tappett noise from start up?? Had tappetts done less than two years ago so hope they not going again!! Help really apreciated :( also if it is water pump anything else worth changing while i get the work done??
  10. Thanks boost monkey i know i talk a load of old shite sometimes so glad someone followed me!! Exactly what i needed to hear and now fell stupid for such an easy answer!! Will go back to gsf the morrow, not giving vag £23 + vat for one no chance will take a risk with the aftermarket one!! :salute:
  11. yup, that's right. thermotime switch for the ISV is red/green (basically allows the car to run well from a cold start, mine is broke and so car run lumpy until it is warm). There is NO blue temp sensor on a KR 16v, that is only 8v as davidwort suggested. Cheers for help, problem is though i can only find the above part and it doesn't have a spade connector on it just exactly as th pic above. Is this the right part and if so do you transfer the old spade across to create the electrical feed?? :?
  12. So went today to track down a sensor as davidwort advised (many thanks). All i culd find was the whats in the pic below. Pardon my ignorance but do you have to swap the spades over from old to new part or is this not the right one?? Part no. 049 919 501 is this the right one?? :? Also I believe all three sensors in that area are identical so is it worth changing them all at once?? If not can anyone tell me which is which by the wires please?! All helps would be much appreciated Kieran
  13. Thought i had the wrong one!! Was changing the water outlet flange on sat and noticed the part i had went nowhere. Had seen this part on the 8v golf before so confused me :? Thanks very much for the help will go to vw tomorrow and get the right one plus some new g12+ :D
  14. Would much appreciate some help. Got a new temp sensor from a local motor spares and not sure if its the right one for my 1.8 valver?? Is this the right part (below)?? If not could anyone tell me what the right part is or what it looks like?? If it is where the hell is it based?? Have done searches for a few days now but just seem to be gettin people mentioning they changed it or know how to change it without going into detail!! Obviously I am useless but could do with the help!! :D Thanks Kieran
  15. water outlet flange is the problem!! Its dripping all the time and has the dry coolant scum collecting around it. thanks for the help guys will be purchasing a new one and fitting it v soon :D
  16. cheers pal i work in a plumbers merchant so will give it a try!
  17. bummer! thats worst case senario, would rather no exactly where it is so then you can get it sorted no matter how much it might cost :(
  18. Got in my rado to go home from work last night and got to the bottom of the road with the coolant light still flashing! No sign of any leak what so ever and the car was running near empty. Took over half a litre to get it back up to just under the max mark. This is the thing though when i left the car ticking over and drove it up and down the street it stayed at the same level. I keep an eye on the water regularly so it doesn't do this and had only checked it a few days before. Anyone experienced the same or know what is a potential problem??
  19. I got me a full supersprint last year best thing I've put on the car! Looks awesome and sounds great! Think I paid around £280 delivered for front pipe, centre pipe and oval back box!
  20. Just renewed my cover £376 with only four years no claims, £200 excess and three mods declared!! With Greenlight insurance.
  21. I got a bilstein kit for my early valver and the rear drivers spring has snapped in half. Does anyone know the best place to get a pair of springs and whether they have a guarantee longer than two years?? Cheers
  22. Waiting for a set to come up for sale or on ebay, then i can get a spare at the same time!
  23. BBS, Bought them with only 1 centre cap. They're £35 each from alloy dealers and BBS so kept them without.
