  1. I've had a set of these fitted to the car for a few years and I'm starting to wonder if they would affect ride quality to any degree. Basically one end of the spring sits on the fixed platform of the shock, the other end of the spring is held by the top plate which effectively is held by the top mount (and nut). I'm thinking that by using lowering top plates you are shortening the spring, i.e. pretensioning it? Is this the right way of looking at it? I've got progressive rate springs so am I loosing some of the low rate travel? I keep going round in circles!

  2. I've got my front suspension in many bits at the moment and I've just noticed the front hubs have noticeable play in them, side to side and endfloat. I've never noticed any real effect of this on the road (apart from deteriorating ride quality!). I'm assuming its new bearings time, I take it there shouldn't be any noticeable slack? You could never feel any play when the hub nut was on, by wobbling a jacked up wheel. . .

  3. I've just removed my first (old) wishbone rear bush, I notice that the diameter of the bolt hole is significantly wider than it is for my new TT/R32 bush. Is this right, should there have been a sleeve in the old one? The bolt is a really sloppy fit in the old bush bolt hole.

  4. I'm having thoughts about 2 shock/spring kits at the moment as I just pulled my front suspension apart yesterday and will probably be looking for replacements.

Firstly KW do a set of shock/springs for £250, KW coilovers are always reckoned to be very good quality, I see no reason why their non-coilovers should be any different and for £250 quid. (Haven't checked spring rates yet though)

Secondly Koni do a kit (shocks/springs) called the STR.t kit, again I think it is sub £300, seems to get good reviews on the Mk4 Platform.

    A couple more to ponder/discuss!

Where are you seeing this KW set? It's not on their site?

Hmm, hang fire there, I may have made a c0ck up! I'm certain I saw one recently however I can only see said kit for non VR6 models now. I can only find the Koni kit for £400 ish now too. I'll keep looking!

  6. Never felt so stupid how he was talking down to me, i'm no mechanic but after owning countless Corrado's for the past 6 years and using this forum and info from the people that actually own these cars and know how to do the jobs in a Corradoesqe way i know i know more than him,

This is the problem with certain types of people who do certain types of jobs, if they are a mechanic and you're not a mechanic, then how could you possibly know anything about mechanics! Most frustrating.

I had this when I was learning to drive HGVs a few years ago, the guy instructing us was wrong on a couple of points of traffic law. I naturally let him know this and he hit the roof. He (a very experienced driver) couldn't comprehend that someone who was only just learning to drive artics could possibly know anything. Until that is I got the Highway code out.

Certain trades attract know-it alls, who don't really know that much.

Don't let it worry you, he knows deep down the Corrado is a far superior car and is probably jealous!

  7. More worryingly, why were you looking in the 'Boring Stuff' section?

Thats where a lot of the good bargains are, people list things in the 'Shed' section under Boring Stuff, however the first line often reads 'This is not a shed'. There is a working Volvo 850 T5 for 400 quid in there. . . .

  8. I really didn't enjoy last nights episode, I think you're right about the filler Jim. Too much track stuff, for me, I like the track stuff but 4 different track articles was too much for one episode. Not to mention the Wedding, awful, I will never believe that was a real wedding regardless of what Clarkson said at the end! I really enjoyed the other 2 episodes though, at least there was another bit about the reliant robin again last night though.

  9. Well the one just coming down the hill from the A3 heading into Bordon was me in my Blackberry VR!!

Cool. Welcome to the Forum. Are you local to Bordon?

Cheers! Yeah I'm Farnham way. Yourself?

Work in Oakhanger, (just outside Bordon) live down near Fareham. I'm normally in my Storm Grey VR6, just borrowed the posh Blackberry for the day!
