  1. what do you mean by "plastic housings"?

It would probebly be quicker for you to read my thread from last year. Just use the SEARCH option and type in SAMCO COOLENT HOSES then put my name in underneath VEEDUBHEV. That will explain it all.

Dont let the thread put you off getting the hoses, i have had no problems since then, ive just put it down to being one of those things!

  2. Very nice looking Mk1 there! I Love the MK1's, got a 83 Gti and its brilliant. Its in semi retirement now but i would never get rid of it!

The way i look at it is why just have one classic? So thats why i bought my Corrado VR6 and so that i could enjoy the best of both worlds!

Have fun with your new toy!

  3. At my Moms house i have a sign on the wall saying 'VW Parking Only-All others will be crushed!' I come from a VW mad house hold. Mom had a Polo, Bro had a Mk2 Golf, then Mk4 Golf Turbo, then his Rad G60 and ofcourse my VR6 Rad and my Mk1 Golf GTI. Now im living with my boy friend in a flat so i park next to his Vdub. When out and about i tend to park next to the smartest looking car, preferably of the VW kind

  4. I have bought mine a new poly v belt to try and stop the winning noise ive now got after my timing chain change. However still have the annoying noise but the belt needed changing anyway. So i guess the Rad will be getting a new year pressie of a new tensioner to see if that solves the problem. And it will keep getting a pressie every pay day untill i get rid of the noise

  5. Crikey. Surprised that people are still going to main dealers for this sort of work.. would you mind telling us how much VW charged you for this job?

I took the Corrado to VW in Worcester as nowhere local would do the job. It cost a stonking £1198.83 :!: That did include a new clutch, although i had a new one about 18 months ago. I asked them to check if it needed doing and relplace if so, and ofcourse it must have needed doing  And ofcourse i got to bring the extra noise home with me too

  6. Well i went down to my local volkshop yesterday, got them to have a listen and took the main man for a spin. He said that it definately isnt the timing chain. The noise is from the wrong end of the engine. He said that it was either the poly v belt, alternator belt or the bearing. Either way its not bad enough yet to worry bout it too much. So needless to say im releived. My other half thought that maybe VW had removed the poly v belt and put it back on the other way round which could be causing it to squeel. Anyway thanks again. Speak to you all next month with my next problem

  7. Thanks for the advice folks. Think i will take it back to VW. Dont know if they used Mk4 top tensioners, they gave me a print out of what they had done and replaced but thats it. When i picked the Rad up i did ask to speak to the mechanic who had done the work but they fobbed me off and said that the Mechanics were too buisy and that i would be unable to enter the workshop for health and safety reasons, blah blah. So i dont even know what the condition of the old parts were? I will phone VW on monday and let you know how i get on. Thanks again :D

  8. Hello all! Me again with question of the month  After reading about others peoples disasters with their timing chain going i decided to have mine done. My rad(vr6)had done nearly 140k though so decided now was the time although there were no tell tale signs it was going. I booked it in last week and had it done at a semi local VW main dealer. Picked the rad up two days later (after clearing out the bank account  ) They had renewied the chain, tensioner etc and had also reneiwed the clutch. When i was driving home i could hear a winding up noise each time i was excelerating, almost like a turbo winding up(without the ending ssss). I was abit concerned and asked my other half on return if he thought it was normal. The rad was always really quiet before having this done. I know that it takes a while for things to settle down in the engine after it has been removed etc but ive done 200 mile in it now and noise still there (no better or worse) Im probebly just worrying over nothing but just wandered how/if anyone elses rad was differant after surgeory. Any comments, first hand experiace or advice would be much appreciated. Thanks

  9. Thankyou Craigowl and Supercharged for the warm welcome and handy hints!

I have replaced all of the hose clips with stainless steel Jubilee clips. My local Volks shop carried out the work for me and i have been taking both of my VW's there for ages now and they have always done good jobs for me, so can confidently say they have been fitted properly. Tiz strange as you both have had no problems with yours. Im noy going to worry too much as the engine bay does look good now, and as i said its not loosing drastic amounts of water.

Craigowl, i will fit that new breather hose tomorrow and have a good look for more evidence of where the coolent hose problem could be coming from. But dont worry i'll be doing all of this when the engine is cold so my dangly bits (Long hair, ha) wont be at risk. Thanks for your concern though, ha ha

  10. Hello all. Hope im putting this question in the right place. Just wandering if anyone else has experianced problems with their Samco hoses? Ive got a M reg Vr6 and before putting the coolent hoses on it never used any water, now however im having to keep an eye on it. Its not loosing drastic amounts but its concerning. My thermostat went just after having the new hoses on. Then about a week later the thermostat outlet snapped. As i said though its not loosing too much water and all the hoses feel dry at joins. Its a mystery. Just wandering if anyone else has had similar problems or if its just me ending up with the dodgy hoses

Also in the kit with the coolent hoses there was 2 breather hoses, one of which is a completely differant shape to the origonal. Demon tweeks assured me they were the right ones and i cant be bothered to remove all the other hoses to return them :x All i wanted was a smart looking engine bay

Hoses asside though i do love my Corrado and wouldnt change him for the world, well, maybe non leaky hoses, he
