The ABS light is supposed to go out ...
-
Yeah, first things first, do the engine movement test with the brakes on and the bonnet open. Lift the clutch gently in gear and see how far it moves...
-
Could also be the wheel bearing ...
-
Ross tech are obviously the best ones, but they are "expensive". You get what you pay for though. I bought a £30 job off ebay and it's been fine, functionality wise, but it's a bit flimsy and I wouldn't trust it if I relied on it..

Sure you got the timing setup right? Maybe it's a tooth or two out on the top end..?
-
Get rid of that messy engine then!
-
But at what part of the "changing gear" sequence of events does it happen? Changing gear is (not necessarily in order): - off throttle - dip clutch - select new gear - lift clutch - back onto the throttle There's five points here where you might get a jolt, and they could each be for different reasons..

to VR or not to VR...that is the question.....

I'd have to disagree! In standard form, in 5th gear at 70mph the VR is languishing at 3000 rpm.. lethargic is an understatement! Put the VSR/VGI on it, or sit at 85mph/4000rpm and yes, it has all the oomph you could ask for to make motorways disappear with aplomb. -

I'd agree (with Kev!). The VR isn't really *that* quick by modern standards. Now everyone and his brother has 225 bhp (or 275bhp with a chip), 180lbft/190bhp isn't that impressive. But it's more than enough for most people, and it's got a lot more class than the recent hot hatches.. -
And then there's the issue of voltage drop down the looong cables to the bonnet. It hardly seems worth it to me!

Have you scanned the ABS with VAG-COM to see if you actually have any ABS faults? I'm just trying to work out whether you've genuinely got a blown bulb in that facsia unit or you've just got an ABS relay fault or a busted ABS ECU.. If VAGCOM can't connect to the ABS ECU then chances are it's either got no power at all, or it's faulty. (Oh, and it might be worth talking to GPCvwaudi.com to see if they can get the part from germany for less.)

If you relocate the battery, either make sure it's a sealed battery (and never ever buy a non-sealed one!!), or make sure that you encase it in a sealed acid-proof box. And that includes the lid. Acid inside the car if you roll it makes a bad situation much worse!

LOL, and that's the one you've never owned! :) -
You mean it only does it when you operate the clutch? Or it only does it when you come off the throttle? Or it does it when you get ON the throttle? More details please!
-
ABS ECU is not keyed to anything, so you don't need to change it.
-
This also happens if you fit brand new calipers that are a slightly different type ... my hand brake handle is sloppy for the first cm or two and it's only since having the rear calipers changed. Nothing else was changed. Clearly they never opened up the handbrake housing to adjust the cables for the new calipers. They're like that, bunch of useless tossers. I don't use them any more ...

Doddle! Grab a cable off ebay. Download the software from http://www.ross-tech.com. Install. Connect.

Uh oh, quick, someone lock this thread before it turns into another VR6 vs G60 80-pager...! -
Got a laptop? Get a cable for £30 ... Saves some cash in the long run ..!
-
You should be able to reuse the existing ones. A decent garage shouldn't have too many problems with that. As long as it's the right part!!
-
Yes, it'll scan all the potential errors at once .. But don't pay the dealers for it unless you have specific reasons to do so. It's such a quick procedure they'll just rip you off - £50 for nothing..

Major Con in Germany TV-test on new Mercedes S-Class

Um, yeah, that's what I said six days ago! ;) -
Yep, lens flare. It's kinda impossible to avoid when the sun is actually in the frame, but the pro lenses have coatings that help cut it down a lot.
-
That's more a picture of the inside of your camera lens than the car itself, VR6...

Can't see any paint there, just reflections... Saw a new black ferrari a few weeks back. Couldn't say for sure that it was black though, as all I could see was the buildings around it and the blue sky...
