Blue smoke? Probably the old belt melting... You don't wanna drive around without your water pump working, so it's a good thing the engine stopped I'd say! BTW - how much was the new tensioner? The belt is £28+VAT (£18 with discounts).
-
AFAIK replacing crank sensor isn't a big job, it's just an expensive part. VW charge around £130+ for it.
-
Sounds more like the fuel pump to me. But could also be the crank position sensor (ouch :( ) - need to vagcom it for that.
-
Sure it's possible (on the basis that anything's possible), but I'd imagine it's a hell of a job to do tho!
-
I'd call Marvo the psychic. First question: what were you doing letting the missus drive the Corrado anyway?! ;)
-
Perhaps the engine never revved over 2500rpm..? Though treated properly, I'm sure these engines will stand that mileage. It's the airport taxi syndrome - constant use, all day long, every day, and a car can take 250, 300k miles in a couple of years and not require ANY work (other than wear items like brakes). Run it for 5 minutes each day on a 2-mile commute and it'll be dead in those same 2 years though..

You're just weird! ;) And the drink? It was Peniston Dark Ale. Lots of it... :) My head hurts... :( I wouldn't even say "recently" for my negative comments - I was stung pretty much on day one of Corrado ownership with a bill for rear axle bushes replacement, which tends to leave a nasty after taste..! And yeah, most of the mechanicals have been replaced.. And what hasn't already been replaced is soon to be done..

I have NO threads about my car, because I tend to assume no-one gives a sh*it! i have thus far been unsurprised! ;)

hey, the forum just isn't the same withought ya!!!! :)

Hey, the Henny, he speaks! ;)

I would imagine that a good place to start would be the buying guide....
-
are you speaking from experience there? No, I'm not. I'm speaking as a person with a clue about physics. Practical experience, however, I don't have. You say you've had no problems, I believe you. I'm sure that I would have no problems with a car with a lightened flywheel either. The question was "is there a downside" - I answered it!! :)

teng3, the euro Corrado includes a brake servo assist unit. We get brake assistance (i.e. light pedal) just supplied from the engine vacuum. The ABS pump is merely required to keep the ABS system functioning.

Whats the highest ouput (BHP) you can get out of a g60?????
dr_mat replied to doof's topic in Engine Bay
I do not dispute that you are quoting what you were given at the RR! The at the wheels figure I am sure is correct. (or within tolerance.) All I am saying is that 70 bhp is a hell of a lot to lose to a pair of wheels. I mean, that's 50 kilowatts that we're saying is required just to turn the wheels round?! I would just like to point out (through a drunken typing haze) that I am not trying to accuse anyone of lying, or faking it, or being unreasonable, or of just telling porkies... It's just physics. Prove I'm wrong. Please! -
Still no word from henny on this thread....
-
That's how it's supposed to work, M15 VW. Sounds like you have a dodgy wheel sensor, but intermittently.

The extra inch on the wheels costs you 23bhp?? Having said all that, 177.8 bhp at the wheels is a lot. I really can't believe it means you've got 245bhp at the crank tho, but hey in a world of imperfect statistics we'll have to make our own minds up. :) -
Why do you still have the number, if you hate it so much? It's dead easy to transfer them now...
-
I pull out of my parking space forwards....... ;)
-
Also bear in mind that a lightened flywheel makes more difference in low gears. You will notice pretty much NO improvement in 5th, for example!!
-
Lighter flywheels make the car more jerky to drive, and make the engine easy to stall. The VR has pants-all torque at 750rpm anyway, without adding a low-mass flywheel to the mix... Car manufacturers wouldn't be very sucessful selling cars that are harder to drive and even harder to drive *smoothly*..

Henny has gone very quiet... (Let's hope his engine has too.)
