    crash!!!

Nah, can't do that. They're for driving, not looking at!
  2. Quite, that is a classy finish on that engine! Like it! The fluorescent blue was pretty awful! ;)
  3. Of course it's different, that's why it's 9p/litre cheaper!
  4. A friend drove with a slipping clutch for some time. It gets to be a bit of a liability when you find yourself unable to pull away up steep hills and stuff! But other than that, it's not going to damage anything.

    crash!!!

I suspect written off. Creases in the body shell are usually terminal.. :( Bummer!
  6. It's about 3 hrs labour, and a new clutch is around £100 + VAT so you ought to be able to get the job done for around the £250 mark I'd say! If the clutch is slipping, it's needing replacing, not much else to say there. It would be prudent to check if your timing chains are needing doing at the same time, cos otherwise that's a whole bunch of repeated labour to remove the g/box etc.
  7. Sounds like it's really worth it for the high mileage people here!
  8. Does it matter? If you drive it on the roads all the time, and are happy with the handling, then leave it alone. If you want to improve it, fine. But personally I put new OE dampers on and it's made a drastic improvement compared to the tired (but perfectly functional) 110k milers I had on before. Up to you really, but replacing it just so you might gain a few 10ths on a lap is hardly worth it, IMHO. :)
  9. Close run thing, on the track. The suspension on the VR is a little soft for track use, TBH, it really shows up on the track. I mean, it's still got lots of grip, and it's very progressive when you run out of grip, but it's not going to corner anywhere near flat...
  10. Wow, he called my posts "humour". I am highly honoured. Anyway, it's Phat's thread, so it's up to him to decide what the topic is! :)
  11. Who cares? It's a discussion group. Let's discuss! ;)
  12. You should have bought a Civic Type R, so you can hang your hand-bag on the gear stick.
  13. You *are* talking about your car, now aren't you Kev?? ;)
  14. Sounds like that's the one on Kev's car now...
  15. Possibly, it's definitely there in my '95 manual. I can't remember which section it's in though. It shouldn't be very loud - certainly not really audible over the engine and stuff, it's just that you can feel it through the pedals when you're inside the car.
  16. Thanks Henny! 8) Oh, and I guessed the spelling... :) I figured most people weren't gonna know if I got it wrong anyway! ;) :-P
  17. I work in technical support... can you tell? :) Seriously though - that's where the word comes from. It has no technical roots, it's purely descriptive.
  18. Hang on, if this is a 97 R reg, maybe the rattling comes from the VGI-related gubbins that went onto the later engines?
  19. Think "tink" - the noise of two light bits of metal hitting each other the "pink" comes from the fact that it's not actually metal hitting metal, so the attack on the noise (deadened by the engine block) isn't so harsh. Hence "pink". Roughly...
  20. (It's actually an onomatopaeic word - the word is supposed to sound more or less like the actual sound, so...)
  21. How old are you?! You've never heard a car pink?! Wow!! Had a transit van on rental for the day once about 8 years ago. It was pinking like mad, really really badly. I just assumed it was something metallic that was loose on the engine, so I drove on (didn't have time to try and fix it anyway), and lo and behold the head gasket went awol.. :) So there you are it sounds roughly like a piece of metal rattling against the engine block. A fairly light piece of metal...
  22. Well yeah, you can't really get to the lower rivets easily (at all), but I've read a thread detailing someone's successful attempt to do this, so either he's talking BS or it worked for him. It'd be very strange to see worn out tensioner at such low mileage, so I'd say if you're worried, inspect the tensioner, but if not, look elsewhere for the cause of the noises.
