Hi, I thought you'd be interested in this even if your car insurance isn't due just yet but especially if it is! There's some bad news but there's also some relief at the end... The bad news According to an industry report last week, Comprehensive car insurance premiums are now at their highest levels since 2010. The report reveals that the average premium rose to £847 during Q2 of 2017. That's an increase of £66 or 8.4% across the last quarter and £132 or 18.5% across the last 12 months. The report cites 4 main reasons: 1) the increase in Insurance Premium Tax (IPT), which has been going up since July 2015 and now sits at 12%, 2) the marked reduction in the Ogden discount rate for personal injury awards, 3) good old Brexit - insurers are seeing increases in the cost of vehicle repairs, fuelled by Brexit’s impact on car part prices, and 4) greater repair complexity as the level of expensive technology in vehicles increases. The report claims there's no evidence to suggest the increases are going to abate. A £1,000 average premium is still on the horizon but is getting closer. There's some good news though... Chris Knott's average new policy premium is just £405 - less than half the national average according to the report. This is also a much shallower increase across the last year - only £14 (3.6%) and still bucking the trend. As a happy client recently said "This is my third year with @ChrisKnottIns and every year they beat all my other quotes for both cars that are modded. Many thanks again and keep up the good work and the prices down!" carcall, Audi-Sport forum Please give us a call for a quote to access these lower average rates for club members. You'll need to mention this forum to gain access to our 'Clubs & Enthusiasts scheme'. QUOTELINE: 0800 917 2274 ONLINE: Visit https://www.chrisknott.co.uk/CarQuote to request a call back. ***************** Feedback about our clubs and enthusiasts offering: "Well Chris Knott's has come good again - this is my 3rd year with them now this year. They beat all other quotes I was getting without even trying." Rusty2009, Astra J/GTC OC "Another customer today. Not entirely new as insured a few Alfas with you many years ago. Good price, friendly chat with Ian. Not convinced about the need to supply driving licence check code as never had to do that before, nothing to hide but guess it's to flush out some that have." gavp, BabyBMW forum "Hi Guys, just purchased my first policy from you - beat my renewal with AXA of £845, now I'm paying £760. Happy motoring. Easy, quick and competitive ." Vrs_Maj, VWAudi Forum

AND THE WINNER IS... Hi, Thanks so much to every one of you who requested a car insurance quote to enter our Spring competition. Thanks also to our existing clients who qualified for entry when we invited your renewal. I'm now pleased to announce the winner, drawn at random, of Chris Knott's prize draw. The winner receives 2x F1 British Grand Prix Grandstand Tickets (with circuit parking). Congratulations to Robert Ward, a member of Volvo Owners Club, who requested a quote for his S80 back in March. We'll launch another competition shortly and run it on from this one so no-one misses out! So please keep calling - we'd love to quote you if your car insurance is due soon. Here's a reminder of our number: 0800 917 2274 but we're also happy to call you if you PM me your number. Please remember to mention this club/forum when you call to make sure you and the club receive the full benefit. best, Nick ************************** Testimonials Fresh feedback received from car club members recently: "Got a good quote from you guys this year on the M3 cheaper than anyone else (price matched) like others have said a fair amount of paperwork to send off but it's not too bad to be honest and I found the staff to be very helpful too. Thumbs up from me a happy customer for the year." hopz121, Z4 Forum "Superb service, more than fair prices after a haggle and its lovely to talk to a person in this country... Been with them about 10 years looking after most of our insurance!" Nick Walton, Multipla Owners Club "Well that's me signed up for another year. Nobody could get close this year, well done CK." riven1962, C4 Owners Club "I was involved in a no fault accident last year and expected my renewal to go up to stupid money, even though it wasn't my fault. Was really surprised with the quote and have now renewed for another year. Great service received, hope to be with you for many years to come. Cheers." ChrisG, Audi-Sport.net "Quick and easy Insurance. Just renewed my annual insurance and was fed up with premiums increasing each year so I rang Chris Knott. Service was easy and quick and they managed to reduce my premium compared to other companies. Docs arrived on e-mail very quickly and once I had paid and provided proof of current NCB I had a nice tag to attach to my car keys so if they are lost they can be returned swiftly." Hi, I thought some of you might like to see this interesting vid featuring one of the insurers we use to underwrite the club's car insurance scheme - ERS. Gumball 3000 organisers were looking for a specialist insurer to underwrite this year's event - a motor risk that includes Saudi princes, oligarchs and celebrities, driving prestige cars and imported vehicles worth over £30 million on a 3,000 mile journey through 10 countries. Most insurers ran a mile. ERS got under the skin of one of the world's most unique motor risks to underwrite the Gumball 3000 rally. You'll see Chris Knott has*partnered with insurers who, like us, know what they're doing when it comes to assessing motor risks, are proper car enthusiasts and take great effort to understand the needs of those they're covering. ERS has long respected the work we're doing with car club members and will help us to win your business when you ask us to quote for your car at the next renewal. Please give us a call in the mix when searching for quotes and we'll help you find the best insurance deal this year. QUOTELINE: 0800 917 2274 - remember to mention this club/forum to access all the benefits. ONLINE: complete brief contact details for a callback - https://www.chrisknott.co.uk/CarQuote best, Nick *************************** Recent testimonials... "I just wanted to send you a message to say many thanks to CK Insurance and Tabitha especially who dealt with my initial query and quotation. Today I have taken out my car insurance with yourselves and it was a nice experience all-round. Tabitha was professional and easy to speak to and answered all the questions I had relating to the cover. I'll definitely recommend others to try you for a quote. You saved me over £375 compared to my renewal quote with *******, and now a chance of F1 tickets! Superb." ZakR, BabyBMW forum "Just saved £210 on my 9-5 and £167 on my 9-3 :D Many thanks Chris Knott." zagato, UKSaabs forum "My last insurance wouldn't cover brake or suspension mods even though they would make the car handle better, but would insure exhaust and air intakes, which sort of add more performance. Anyway, I found Chris Knott were best for me. Club Sponsor." Dan France-Athayde, Hyundai Coupe Owners Club UK "Just called up for a quote. Doing it all by phone is beautifully antiquated. However, there was a refreshing degree of honesty with the process. In my case they COULD match any sensible quote and were honest that if I wanted the bare minimum I might be able to get it marginally cheaper but highlighted the coverage differences. The breakdown cover similarly has some pretty good terms for the price. Waiting on my old insurer (£650 more expensive) to post out the paperwork." Cyber_hawk, Z4 Forum "I have my 480 on classic car insurance through Chris Knott this year; a better package than the previous one I had through ****** **** (in particular the insurance company in question is UK based and well known, as against Gibraltar based and completely unknown to me) and significantly cheaper. And I was very impressed with the service!" dcw, Volvo Owners Club

Chris Knott - great prices AND service... Thank you to everyone who took up new policies with Chris Knott in April - our best month so far this year - you helped us reach 114% of our target! UK's car insurance premiums on the rise again.
ChrisKnottIns posted a topic in Chris Knott Insurance
UK's car insurance premiums on the rise again. For those interested, here's a copy of an article we wrote for the Saab Owners Club GB magazine in early February about the potential for insurance premium increases across the whole market. "As we move into the year we know that Article 50 will be invoked by the PM and negotiations for our exit from the EU will begin. The EU has been blamed for much of the heavy regulation we see in UK industry. However, without influence from Europe, changes to personal injury claims are likely following a recent review by our own Ministry of Justice (MoJ) that will impact the current easy target – the motorist. The government has already increased Insurance Premium Tax to 12% (effective from 1st June this year) and the proposed amendments to injury pay-outs are tipped to increase insurance costs further, particularly for those of us driving on the UK’s roads. Currently, when a personal injury award is made the total is discounted by a factor (known as the Ogden Rate) to account for the expected additional return when the lump sum is invested by the recipient. We’re considering sums here that are awarded to cover loss of earnings, increased life-long care costs for someone majorly affected by an accident or even death. The Ogden Rate is designed to ensure that someone is not under- or over-compensated. At the moment this discount rate is set at 2.5% and it has been at this level since 2001. The MoJ wants to reduce the discount rate to reflect the current interest rates, meaning that an insurer’s share of any pay-out would increase. The industry body, the Association of British Insurers (ABI), launched a legal challenge to the MoJ’s review in December on the basis that there has not been proper consultation but the High Court rejected the ABI’s concerns. ABI representatives say the reduction comes “at a time of significant global financial uncertainty” and one insurer’s analysis suggests that a 1% decrease in the Ogden Rate would wipe £190 million off its profits. Does this mean that insurers will want to pass on the costs to the policyholder? Most probably. A decision is imminent, though the 30th January deadline has already been missed and an announcement has been promised, by the Lord Chancellor, for February. One thing’s for sure, this is a hot topic in the industry at the moment and the ramifications for insurers and, potentially, car insurance purchasers are greater than even the tax rise and the MoJ’s whiplash reforms." On February 27th the Ogden Rate was indeed reduced, from 2.5% to -0.75%. The drop was much bigger than the industry expected and shares in motor insurance firms plummeted on announcement. It now looks like our prediction was correct and rates are beginning to rise across the board. Rest assured, at Chris Knott Insurance we'll still be doing all we can to find you the best car insurance deals out there. As your existing provider increases their rates please call us to see if we can offer you something better under our privileged club/forum scheme for enthusiasts. QUOTELINE: 0800 917 2274 Please mention this club/forum or its unique code when you call to ensure you receive the full benefits of the club scheme. best, Nick PS. As an aside, there is equal implication for the NHS as medical malpractice claims also use the Ogden Rate to calculate compensation. -

Best, Nick ***************************** Feedback Others agree that we offer great service: "I've just taken out insurance for the first time today with your company. Must say, very professional service from the lady on the phone." HotBlackCoupe, Hyundai Coupe Owners Club "It's coming up to renewal time for me so decided to give CK a go, so gave them a call and was put through to Ian in their sales team. He was a really helpful chap that made the usual questions seem quick & easy. He also explained a couple of queries I had and after a very short wait the quote came through which was cheaper than the comparison sites. I have to hold my hands up here and say I did tell Ian that esure quoted me cheaper but after looking through the quote I realised I hadn't declared SWMBO non-fault claim that occurred in Dec, so after amending that and checking again CK were cheaper by about £20. Overall the quote is over £100 cheaper than what I paid last year so happy with the price and the ease of quotation and customer service have been good so far. Just my 2 cents and I hope others find it useful." PearceHD, BabyBMW.net "I've just swapped to yourselves from my insurer of the last 4.5 years after you beat their lowest quote by £35 and upped my mileage from 5K to 10K per year. Excellent work and I'd just like to add that Rebecca was a pleasure to deal with." CiderFex, New Mini Scotland "I am pleased to say I have had and accepted a quote from Chris Knott Insurance. While not quite the cheapest, I am very satisfied with the quality of the policy and service so far. In terms of value I am satisfied this is a very good offer. Additionally, no silly electronic phone systems and no long delays on the phone, but polite and quick service from a very competent lady and extraordinarily speedy provision of ultra clear documentation. It is a very nice surprise to see that some people can still communicate in straightforward and clear terms. Very refreshing - after spending a lot of time on the phone to other outfits that were a total waste of time my stress and blood pressure have returned to normal. Thank you. I will be very happy to recommend you." petercresswell, Fiat Forum

NEW CHRIS KNOTT PRIZE DRAW: Silverstone F1 Grandstand Tickets x2 Hi, I'm excited to reveal another prize competition from Chris Knott... one that's for new AND existing customers :) We consulted the members of all the car clubs and forums we work with when selecting the prize for Chris Knott's 2017 Spring Prize Draw. So, the members have spoken - request a Chris Knott Car Insurance quote before close of play on Wednesday 31st May for your chance to WIN 2x grandstand tickets at the 2017 Silverstone F1 Grand Prix. All you have to do is ask us for a quote and you'll automatically be entered for our draw to win this fantastic prize (worth over £500). Of course, we're hoping to win something too - you as a new customer! You don't have to purchase cover in order to qualify for the draw, just receive a quote. If our cover, service and price stack up it makes sense for you to switch to the car enthusiasts' specialist. We can quote about 30 days in advance of your renewal so even if your car insurance isn't due until late June you can still obtain a quote before the deadline. The GP tickets naturally cover all the events of Race Day - Sunday 16th July 2017 - and we've thrown-in circuit parking for one vehicle too. HOW TO ENTER... Either call us (always our preferred method) on 0800 917 2274 and mention this forum's unique quote code, or complete contact details at https://www.chrisknott.co.uk/CarQuote and we'll call you for the quote details (though we risk missing you and therefore you might not gain entry). If your car insurance is due soon, pick up the phone for your Chris Knott quote. Oh, and existing CK clients, you'll automatically gain entry too, if your renewal is due in the timeframe, when we invite your renewal. best, Nick ************************** Testimonials Yet more positive feedback received from car club members in the last few days: "Just thought I'd say a big thank you to Chris Knott, especially Kathy, for their competitive quote for this year, but more for the speed that everything was done and dusted in. I used to work in the Insurance industry, but they never achieved service levels like this." kentphil1, Briskoda "Saved about £180 on mine and £35 for my wife, both with superior cover to Admiral and lower excess!" Robbijay, GT86/BRZ Owners Club "I work in retail and so realise people are quick to criticise and lack in praise when a job is done well. I'd like to say how helpful Daryl White was in renewing my car insurance policy. Within 25 minutes he'd reviewed a quote, called me back, adjusted it and sent new documents! Thoroughly happy with the service I've received, both on this occasion, a previous call on Monday (don't recall the gent's name, sorry) and with yourselves in general, this is exactly how you retain customers!" Rob Harper, Micra Sports Club

Hi guys, you remember how we often run competitions and prize draws? Well, we wanted to check with you what you find the most attractive before we select this year's prizes. In the past we've offered £100 Amazon vouchers, Virgin supercar driving experiences, tickets to events such as the MotoGP or the Performance Car Show, Euro Car Parts vouchers and even professional Car Photoshoots. These and many of the ideas that you may like to suggest are all possible. Please just let us know what you'd like (within the realms of decency and reason). Just to give you some context if you're not aware of our prize incentives - usually we offer a prize in a draw where you just have to ask us for a quote on a car we don't already cover for you in order to enter. Or we may run a virtual Show & Shine competition on social media with a prize for the best photo or car. I look forward to hearing your ideas or opinions on the prizes we've offered in the past - your chance to shape Chris Knott's car club/forum member offers this year. best, Nick Car Insurance QUOTELINE: 0800 917 2274 - please mention this forum when you call. PS. For existing clients we've now also started making exclusive client-only offers in addition to the other client offers that are always available. ********************* RECENT FEEDBACK "Gave you guys a call last week, got a competitive quote to renew, which I will take up I suspect as nobody has come close to matching it yet." Alex, Vauxhall Owners Network "I got a great quote from them, and found them a pleasure to deal with..." bmwaddict, Z4 Forum "Wow, just spoke to Milton about changing over my car and again another great service as always. I have had all my cars with Chris Knott Insurance and every time I have called, Milton has answered my call - even understands my scottish accent. Milton you are awesome, thanks for sorting out all my car insurance problems and shall speak to you next time I swap over. Number one for insurance Chris Knott. If they can't help I am afraid you might have a problem." George Stewart, Facebook "Was a long-time member with Aviva, back when it was Norwich Union. So much for loyalty. Been behind the wheel for over thirty years & never made a claim (which is quite something the way I drive!). Chris Knott saved me over £500 with exactly the same cover!" Ghost, C-Max Owners Club "Just wanted to thank you for your help. We managed to get everything sorted in the end. Price comparison site price beaten - so glad to remain a customer. Great service from Rebecca and Dawn, both were really helpful." Lowe, GT86/BRZ Owners Club

Be interesting to see if they'll share a copy of the 'procedures' - wonder if it mentions things to watch out for, such as damage to the motor.

There have been a couple of items in the news in recent days about the cost of car insurance... One claiming that comprehensive car insurance premiums rose on average by 14% (£95) during 2016 and the other that men still pay more than women even though gender equality rules state insurers can't specifically use gender as a rating factor. Of course, on the question of gender there are other risk factors that produce the result - men tend to cover more miles and are more likely to drive for work, have sportier cars and more motoring convictions. Those are each rated on for all drivers, so gender doesn't specifically feature. Nevertheless, these headlines highlight the need to get a competitive quote at renewal. At Chris Knott Insurance we're always happy to quote you, even if it's just so you can benchmark your existing cover and price. It worked really well for this member of the Yeti Owners Club: "I received a great quote from Chris Knott when my Yeti came up for renewal this November. Shamefully I'd been with D*****L*** for several years without shopping around so my premium was very uncompetitive. Chris Knott halved it! So I got a quote for the other half's new car too and they were still the cheapest around for combined insurance." discosteve To find out how much you could save with Chris Knott's special club member scheme please give us a call or PM me your number at renewal so we can call you. QUOTELINE: 0800 917 2274 - please mention this forum/club when you call. ONLINE: Callback Request Form We like to think we're bringing something extra to the table too by way of personal service, expert advice, accessibility, accountability to the club/forum and by providing all the ongoing support you need throughout your time as our client. Please include us in the mix when searching for your next year's cover. best, Nick *********************** RECENT FEEDBACK As a member of the car enthusiast community you really can save money when switching to Chris Knott and NOT just in year one: "I got a good deal this year with Chris Knott, both mine and Nicci's daily insurances." Ettienne, Volvo Performance Club UK "EP3 Insured with Chris Knott - matched best price and better policy. Just taken out a policy through Ian at Chris Knott Insurance and am really pleased. I used the usual websites to try to get a decent quote for my EP3, most of the premiums look ok but once into the details each online policy seemed to have a hole in; no legal cover, no replacement car, month's salary for an excess etc, etc. Called up Chris Knott and not only could they match the online price, the policy had a lower excess, added legal cover and an extra 2000 miles on the policy. Give 'em a try." JTM12, Typre-R-Owners.co.uk "I've been getting my Volvo insurance through Chris Knott for many years, hard to find good insurance for modified cars." t5_andy, Volvo Owners Club "Sensible car insurance renewal arrived this morning from ChrisKnottIns - easily undercut my other like-for-like quotes by £200+ nice one!" If I renew with Chris Knott (here's hoping I do) it will be the fourth year with same insurer, talk about looking after existing customers :) You rock!" Imran, VWAudi Forum "Well I will be insuring with you for another year as your quote is cheaper than any other I have found. Have also recommended you to my dad, so am waiting to see if he goes with you so I can get my £20 discount to make it an even better deal. The guys at CKI are really friendly and helpful, but I can't comment on the claims process as I have not had to make a claim." Steviec100, 208 Owners Club "Just had the renewal price for mine and is gone up just a shade over the 16.3[% national] average so it's looking like I'll renew [with CK] for the third time running. I've done all the comparison sites, Aviva, Direct Line, Allianz and nobody can touch them again. Makes a change from the p#ss take I got from several others after a low first year." gerrywac, UK-MkIVs.net "Renewed my insurance with you guys earlier today, didn't see much of an increase at all." mark-in-stoke, GT86/BRZ Owners Club "I was expecting an increase with my insurance which is due soon, but when the renewal came through it had dropped by £21.00 and is now only £176.00 (last year £197.00). Not bad for fully comp' insurance, 2yrs NCD." Xanadu, Celica Club UK

UPDATE: AND THE WINNER IS... Put up the bunting, light the firework fuses and start the fanfare - we're announcing the winner of our latest prize draw. Our winner plus a friend will receive VIP tickets to the Performance Car Show (featuring Autosport International) at the NEC in January and all they had to do was ask Chris Knott Insurance to quote for their car insurance. They didn't even have to take up the policy to qualify. And that's certainly the case with this winner drawn at random from all the entries. Very many congratulations to Gordon Macmillan of Dunbartonshire, Scotland - a member of the Saab Owners Club GB. We'll make contact with Gordon first thing on Monday to give him the good news. Well, that's almost it for this year. Aside from answering any questions or contributing to discussions there's just one more post to make next week. We'll be letting you know our opening hours over Christmas so you can contact us if your car insurance renewal is due in the coming weeks. best, Nick QUOTELINE: 0800 917 2274 ONLINE: Callback Request ******************** FEEDBACK RECEIVED "I'm with @ChrisKnottIns with HondaKarma's referral and the premiums I'm paying [are] much less than what comparison websites quoted me and that's with 1 year NCD and I live in London." legend-ary, HondaKarma "I've been with them the last 3 years now. Never had the need to file a claim, so can't comment on that aspect, but overall it's been a painless experience, (or at least as painless as compulsory insurance can be) and they have matched any of the competitors' prices, where they were higher than the competition." turbopete, Mercedes-Benz Owner Forum "Got my mk2 VR6 with you and my winter runaround and just sorted my house buildings and contents through yourself - saved me a fortune. The more pennies to spend on the mk2 now." boab3, VR6 Owners Club "CK had never come remotely close to any of my previous quotes on my cars, nor my father's (range of fast Audis, Porkas, Astons), regardless of spotless licences and claims history. This year, however, they beat both my quotes on the Zed by a decent amount and the "new starter" Golf I've bought for my fiancee. The quote was still high, but no NCB to use as it's on the Zed and a driver who hasn't held a policy for 9 years due to driving other cars meant it was always going to be. So in summary, thanks to the guys for giving me at least another 6 months on the Zed before the wedding forces sale!" JAD, Z4 Forum "I bought my insurance through Chris Knott today, having not owned my GT86 for long enough to be eligible last year, and wanted to provide yet more positive feedback. I can honestly say I've never had such a fast, straightforward, experience taking out insurance. I phoned twice, both times in the middle of the day during my lunch break, and both times my call was answered immediately... I'd like to thank Kim and [ian] who I spoke to today...for their excellent service too; it's nice to talk to someone who sounds genuine and friendly rather than the usual call centre robot reading through a script. There was no high-pressure sales pitch for all sorts of unnecessary extras either. CK were also able to beat my cheapest quote (which happened to be my renewal quote) by 10%, so it was a real no-brainer to take out the policy through them. Unlike many insurers, there was no fee for using a credit card. Great service, great price, and I'd happily recommend Chris Knott to others." spikyone, GT86/BRZ Owners Club

So, the AA released a report last month showing how much car insurance premiums have risen over the last 12 months. Apparently, premiums have gone up by 16.3% - an average of £82 per policy (£18 of which is due to the 2 IPT (tax) increases). The current average car insurance premium is now just pence below £586. Well, maybe they don't know about this special car club/forum scheme. Bucking the trend, I see that our quotes have only risen 3% (£13) on average over the year and our average premium now sits at just £391. I know members sometimes comment about having to get proof of their alternative quotes but if our scheme is quoting £195 less than the rest of the market (again on average) this minor inconvenience is surely worth it? We'd be really grateful for the opportunity to quote for your car insurance when it falls due. If you'd like to make a saving perhaps you'll give us a call or provide your contact details at the link below. Of course, it's not all about price - you'll also receive solid service and help whenever you need it both before and after you've become a client. A non-fault accident. I'm insured through Chris Knott. I called later that day. Had a courtesy car the beginning of the next week. Car taken away for repair and had it back about ten days later. Courtesy car was a skoda superb and was really nice to drive. Repair was to a high standard. A good experience overall." cheekee, Civinfo "I think the true test of an insurance broker/company is when you do have to go through the claims process. I moved to Chris Knott a week or so ago and although I hope never to have to claim on the policy, it's reassuring that the service recieved lived up to expectations." Strax, Fiesta ST Owners Club "I've recently been through the claims process with Chris Knott & Highway for a non-fault claim. Called on the day of the accident. Car was collected the next day, courtesy car (16 plate A5) arrived the same day a little later (provided by my insurer at no cost to me). After a few weeks, the car was dropped back off at my work and I was given an opportunity to review the work. The courtesy car was collected from work the next day. As it's a non-fault claim on my part I imagine it may have worked slightly differently from what JamesBaby experienced but still an otherwise pleasant dealing with solicitors/insurers (which I'm sure you'll all agree can be a rare occurrence). Dangerousfish, DS3 Club "So in the post today came my renewal quote from Tesco ....Nearly double lasts years quote lol what planet they on, off to the go fatblokes site and better coming up with Churchy as the main player and wayhey tesco bank ... ohh yes on there they are cheaper than a renewal lol. Next step Chris Knott, and even better than Churchy great deal with Recovery and Key Cover, overseas, the works and a further £20 cheaper, uk call centre to [uk staff] and a Personal Account Manager if you want, so at the end of the month my PAM will be calling me to confirm all the details, only one downside £150 deposit which is quite hefty compared to churchy £70. Hi, you'll be aware we regularly post examples of the feedback we receive and these are geared more around members' experience of our prices. But here's an unsolicited tale of the experience of one car club member who needed our help when his car was stolen... "Well as promised here is my review of the sad experience of having my pride and joy stolen. The MK4 VW R32 was stolen after what looks like a targeted burglary at my home. It was last seen with a group in the Bradford area. The car was apparently HPI checked in the weeks prior to the theft, and also the week after the theft. Perhaps this implies it was targeted and was then attempted to be sold on. Anyone who knows me and the car knows for the last 5-6 years of ownership how much that car was cherished. I'd spent thousands on it even in the last few months and weeks before it was stolen and it was planned to be kept forever. It was soul-destroying to see it stolen and in the hands of scum, but we were not harmed so I am grateful for that. All else is insured which helps one move on with their life. To that end, I was expecting a nightmare from the insurers. You hear horror stories of low-ball offers of perceived market value and long protracted arguments of what your payout should be. You wonder when you will get paid, you wonder what car you will be able to get from the payout, you mentally prepare for bad news and insult to injury with the impending offer from the insurance company. Thankfully with Chris Knott, and Highway Insurance, my experience of my first ever such claim on insurance was reassuringly good, and better than what I expected. Claims for damage are relatively easy going, you get a quote and take the car for repair, drive a courtesy car, pay your excess, and then collect your car. Job done. Not so with a theft and Total Loss claim. Something to be aware of which I wasn't:- in a total loss claim, where your car is deemed unrecoverable/unrepairable, you do not have access to a courtesy car. You have to get your own car or hire one at your own expense for the duration of the claims process upto the point you buy a replacement vehicle. £120 per week for a tiny supermini, not including insurance waivers and other extras. If you need something larger you pay more. If it takes 4 weeks to get a payout, and a new car thereafter, you are easily £500 out of pocket already. I needed a car to get to work etc. so the pressure was on to get the matter resolved. In my heart I wanted the car back, but after hearing of the lowlife ragging it around their dumps in Mannigham and Firzinghall I decided I no longer wanted it back, and wanted to move on. A sad end to lovely years with the best car I'd ever had. I made the claim to Chris Knott, and was put in touch with several departments and then finally the claims handlers. They collected information and investigated the claim. I was under a lot of financial pressure, as well as being quite emotionally charged just from the whole incident. I was concerned for my wife and was in the midst of making the house like Fort Knox. So I kept in regular contact with the claims handlers. There was a lady called Amy as well as others who showed great patience with me, and remembered me when I called. The handlers investigated the claim and until that was complete the claim could not be passed forward for conclusion by the technical engineers. This took the best part of 3 weeks from the theft date. I contacted them every few days for an update and to let them know the issues I was facing. Then it finally came to an offer from the technical engineer which, as expected, was a low-ball offer which they said was based on the Glass's Guide for my mileage. So I had to write to them about the car, its history, its condition, its equipment and how it differed from other cars which were being advertised at lower prices. I eventually got a call from the engineer who in all honesty was a really nice guy, and reasonable. He explained his role and his payout limitations and being able to justify to auditors any value he agrees. We discussed my car at length and I felt he was sensitive to the situation of losing a car which one is passionate about, as opposed to a monetary loss of a form of transport. He himself was a car enthusiast which made me feel as if he understood me. In the end I am happy to say that we were able to agree a settlement which I was happy with. I felt I was treated like an individual, and I was treated fairly. The final agreed offer brought closure to the issue, as opposed to add to the pain. The cheque for the payout arrived within days of the agreement being reached. Such was my overall experience with Chris Knott and Highway, that they will be my first choice for a renewal quote from now on. The last thing you want in a time of painful issue is for more insult to be added to injury with hassle and poor payout. Chris Knott are understanding to people who cherish their cars, modify them and look after them." JamesBaby, R32 Owners Club If you'd like to be looked after by a broker who understands your needs and the passion you have for a car that is more than just a mode of transport, we'd be happy to talk. You’ll probably be aware that the former Chancellor (in November 2015's budget) levied a second increase in Insurance Premium Tax on unsuspecting motorists, bringing the duty up a further half a percent to a ‘nice’ round 10%. This following another recent increase from 6% to 9.5%. The new 10% rate comes into effect on 1 October this year. You'll be pleased to know that while we can't control the effect on car insurance premiums, Chris Knott Insurance is still going to be helping you where we can. We'll continue trying to beat your alternative quotes (which will also have been affected by the tax rise) to find you the best deal. And where we know what we're up against we can respond favourably under our special scheme that rewards car club/forum members. There's good news on a couple of our other products where we do control the prices. It's only right that we're NOT increasing the cost of either our GAP Insurance (starts currently at £85) or Multi-car Breakdown Cover (currently starts at £63) despite the tax rise - we'll absorb the cost of the extra tax ourselves. Your unique web links for these two products can be found elsewhere in this section of the forum. Alternatively, you can call us on 0800 917 2274 for quotes on any of our products and we'll be pleased to talk to you. best, Nick *********** Testimonials Thanks to these guys for posting feedback about Chris Knott.
