  1. 1. Locate brake fluid leak 2. Work out why im getting 20-25mpg in a 16v 3. Fix exhaust blow
  2. The vacuum pipes on the throttle body elbow fell off and landed on my exhaust manifold and caught fire once.
  3. Did you thoroughly clean the mating surfaces up before replacing the gasket? Could the manifold be cracked?
  4. I have both. Completely unopened first aid kit 8)

    MFA Q's

My MFA is giving completely duff readings. MPH is often 10-20mph too slow Miles travelled is normally 2-3 miles further than actually travelled MPG is around 12-20mpg too low Oil temperature seems accurate Time is accurate. What would cause these symptoms? Just a host of duff sensors or the MFA unit itself? Its a 1990 KR 16V Cheers.
  8. Stunning paint :notworthy:
  9. What a slag of a job that was. Took around 2 hours 30 minutes from start to finish. Still having a bit of trouble setting up the cables to the gearbox and matching the gears. *Note to self - Shift slowly when next trying to make a saxo look silly. :brickwall:
  10. Ok to make things easier I have found a whole gear change mechanism (the lever etc) including both cables. Is it just a case of dropping the exhaust down and unbolting the old mechanism, then feeding the new cables through and bolting the new mechanism in place?
  11. Cheers mate, thats excellent. Next question. How difficult are they to replace? Cheers.
  12. Last night my shift cable snapped on me. Its the cable on the right hand side as your looking at the engine bay. Is this the shift cable or the selector cable? I need to know so i can order a new one. Cheers.
  13. Cheers, im quite proud of them. I've found another large oil leak today from the crankshaft pulley oil seal  Blooming 16v's :cuckoo:
  14. Thanks buddy. Im pleased to report that the engine is now running much better. After I found a few small air leaks and added an extra engine earth the engine is running much better. Its going in for a quick tune up monday so hopefully she'll be running spot on. 8)
  15. Fixed it! Number 15 Fuse for the ISV, electronic ignition and fuel shutoff had blown.
  16. I did replace the central gasket around the spark plug holes as well. When the fuel pump did prime it was easily audible and then buzzed when it was idling. Now I cant hear anything. Also, i released the banjo bolt on the metering head and took all the pressure out of the system, i have turned it over and checked the line and there was no pressure there at all. The engine started and idled fine after the service until the throttle was touched and then it instantly died and wouldnt restart. Surely if i'd have knocked a sensor it wouldnt have started or ran at all.
  17. I have checked the fuel pump fuse and it is intact. I have given the fuel pump and its relay a tap with the ignition on but it still isnt priming. The ISV doesnt buzz when the ignition is turned on, and no other relays click etc. Any help is greatly appreciated. Cheers.
  18. This was my first car This is my Polo, which is being sold in 8 days And the Corrado, which comes out to play when the Polo is sold :)
  19. Ive just done the rocker cover gasket on my corrado as it was leaking severely into 2 spark plug holes. I also gave it a full service whilst i was at it. Before I did this the car would start first time, everytime. However now it is pot luck whether it will start. If it does start it will idle fine and very gentle movements on the throttle are fine but if the throttle is pressed harder it will just cut out straight away and will not restart (just turns over with no firing) Also, the fuel pump doesnt always prime when the ignition is turned on. Is it supposed to? Is there a fuse or a relay I can check? I have undone the fuel inlet on the metering head and fuel squirted out via the sides indicating there is pressure there but it still wont start. Does anyone have any ideas? Its a 1990 1.8 KR Cheers.
  20. 1.16 for normal unleaded round my way. It was 80 odd pence per litre when I started driving, and that was only a year ago!
  21. Its unlikely it will do anything but its worth signing anyway 8) http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/Lowerduty30/ Cheers
  22. Cheers for the advice buddy. I'll check out the rubber damper later on. Ive just had done the rocker cover gasket and checked everything over and tidied a few things up. Stripped the manifold off Took off the rocker cover. The gasket underneath was very brittle and cracked on removal - probably why it was leaking then  However the head looked pretty clean, camshafts had no noticeable marks or wear and the chain looked clean and fairly tought. Then all re-assembled with High temp painted rocker cover I removed the exhaust heat shield/hot air feed as two of its mounts had corroded through and it was rattling like a bugger. Im going to give it a full service today as the spark plugs are caked in oil and the dizzy cap and rotor arm look pretty old. God knows when it last had an oil change
  23. Mines a 1990 (G reg) so probably does fall under that catagory. The drivers side window isnt too bad (all be it a little notchy when rolling down.) I'll try the adjustment tomorrow. Thanks for the info guys :notworthy:
  24. Ahh, excellent. Cheers for clearing that up, i can take that off the list of possible problems now :) Does anyone know of a way i can test the ouput of the motor?
  25. The central locking works perfectly all round. Why would the pipe for the CL connect to the window motor?
