  1. Hi Guys, I have a build up of condensation in both rear quarter panels. It appears to me more prominent towards the back of the car but I can't quite figure out what is causing it. It only appears on the inside the space between the outer body and inner body (hope that makes sense!) I have had the drivers side rear window replace and have checked the sunroof drains all the way until they enter the body of the car. Any suggestions? John
  2. Hey mate, Sorry to hear about your bad news! Let me know if there is anything I can do to help. Was planning on changing my Oil sometime soon anyway :) JP

    Heaters

First time turning my heater on after replacing the matrix my thermal fuse went. Might be worth checking if you have checked everything else, especially considering its only £0.49 (maybe a little more if your as bad at soldering as me :))
  4. They have been at it with a screwdriver or crowbar and bent the metal a little + added an almight scratch so a once perfect door is now a bit fucked... It appears that they cut/tore the wire out of the door handle itself. If this is the case should the loom be ok with any door handle or are they specific? JP
  5. Unfortunately, I don't have a garage to store it in, so the car will get ruined.... :(
  6. How easy are these to items to replace? Some bastard tried to break into my car and has smashed the window. Autoglass are quoting 10 days to have all of the work done and with the xmas period that means the car will be out of commission until the new year so i am thinking about tackling this job myself with some glass from a scrapper. Is it worth the hassle??
  7. Hi Guys, Some arse has tried to break into my car last night and has ripped the door handle off the door. they were unsuccessful but have managed to damage a fair old portion of the door. It appears as though they only cut the wire connecting the door handle to the wire and there doesn't appear to be any further damage. Does this mean i just need a new handle? Thanks John
  8. I have checked the drain tube and it seems ok. There is no water leaking down the side or any moisture on the water marks on the plastics I just removed. I think its something lower down otherwise, It would be quite obvious would it not? Thanks John
  9. Thanks Dragon Green, I have no idea whether the car is leaking when being driven or not. The leak is very difficult to see and i only noticed it because I dropped a screen down there. I will put a hose over the window and will inspect the Arch Liners this weekend. Thanks for the tips, this gives me somewhere to start :)
  10. Hi guys, I am doing a complete refit for my interior and i was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for improving the soundproofing and suggestions of what materials to use. Thanks Jonathan
  11. Hi everyone. I have a very strange leak that I need help with!!. My car seems to accumulate water in the lower drivers side quarter panel. If you take the door card off you obviously have the metal bits where the doorcard is bolted too and seatbelts etc but behind that you have the metal panel which is outside of the car. The lower section below the trimline is absolutely soaked. I have only had the car a few months but there are two rust spots in that area so I am guessing its been like it for years. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what it might ? Thanks John
  12. Hey Mate, Take a look at viewtopic.php?f=19&t=86846 he has been having the same issue. I am no expert at this and can only comment from what problems I have had with mine. If you take the dash out, then you see a plastic tube straight up from the heater box (which is behind your stereo and heater controls) and its this tube that provides air to the windscreen. When you pu the dash back in, you see that this tube goes over a hole of the dash and there is no tubing that distributes the air to key points expect for the dash itself. As far as I know, none of the cogs on a late VR6 affect which side the air blows out (early might be different as it has sliders like my girlfriends mark one and that does have sides) so it could be something blocking airspace in that side of the dash. Alternatively, if you have it all out, you can see that the heater control is attached to the heater box by metal cables know as bowden cables. These move flaps that are covered in foam which control where the air gets pushed out. In mine (a 95 VR6), the foam has started to degradate meaning that even when I have the it set to only blow air out of the windscreen, air still escapes out of the front vents. Do you get a strong amount of air out of the drivers side or is it quite weak? When you change the heater setting from front vents to windscreen, can you hear a small thump, like a flap shutting over the whole. If not (and its not amazingly likely) it could be that the flap is not moving at all and you are constantly getting a small amount of air through the windscreen all of the time. in which case, it could be a faulty heater control or a snapped bowden cable. Luckly there are some really good guides in the wiki to fix both :) JP
  13. Is the cable attached on the other end? If they are connected to the front cog and that is causing the metal wire inside the cable to been pulled through and returned then its either snapped or not attached to the other end. I am no expert on early models but do they have two wires like the lates? if so you might want to check that you are looking at the right one :)
  14. Hi Dom, Can you explain the issue in a little more detail? Is it an early or late? When you say the switch is only working on settings 1 and 4, is it stupidly weak on 1 or is it working as expected? Does any air come out at all on 2/3 or is it the same as setting 1? I had a fan that only worked on setting 4 which only required a new resistor pack (£20) and a thermal fuse (0.49p). If the worst comes to the worst, you can get a blower for about 30-40 quid from here and a new heating controls for about the same. Take the blower out (instructions are in the wiki under thermal fuse replacement) and have a look at the green pack and see if its all covered in black soot you might need to replace it :)
  15. When you drive the car around corners with the heater on does the blower (in the bottom corner passengers side) squeal or make a noise? The foilage gasket + clips cost me £8 to buy last friday from VW so definately worth a look to stop the leak. As for the changing from hot to cold. The heater matrix pipes go from the engine straight into the engine and radiator so they should be constantly warm unless there is an airlock. Change the foiliage seal, if it still leaks then i'd put money on the matrix :)
  16. Hey mate, I am no car mechanic so forgive me if i make a mistake :) The way i understand the heater system as working is that hot water from the engine is taken to the heater matrix where it is used to heat the radiator type device. Using the bowden cables (attached to your heater panel) you move a flap in the heater box so that you either divert the air around the heater matrx (cold) or through it (hot). If the cable is damaged or the clip is not fixed properly, this could cause an issue (at the moment i need to pull mine to get it to work). Otherwise try changing the thermostat. I believe there is a wiki for it :) JP
  17. Hi Guys, If you are trying to get to the bottom of whats wrong, try looking at viewtopic.php?f=19&t=86764 VW deviant suggested that as my matrix is changed, the reason the footwell might be wet is due to the Foilage gasket. Have either of your noticed your blower squeaking or a had to replace the thermal fuse recently? if so the gasket may well be your issue :) JP
  18. Does anyone have any suggestions as to why the drivers side rear quarter panel is wet? I had my rear door cards off and back seat out. As i thought I had dropped a screw, I stuck my hand down between the panel and the seating base of the rear seats metal and it was absolutely sodden. Also passenger foot keeps getting quite wet (not soaked by quite damp). Is this the door card issue? if so I will fix it when i change the cards this weekend. Thanks John
  19. Thanks to everyone for there comments and advise :)

    Headlining

Thats not too bad and I am in no rush :) I now need to try and sell my entire grey interior! i get the feeling that may take a while. Does anyone have any idea of a ballpark figure for a pretty good but not mint interior, including carpet, panels, dash, glovebox, shelves, trays and parcel shelf?

    Headlining

How much would that cost :)

    Headlining

So different from a regular grey interior headlining? Are the worth the hassle of replacing.

    Headlining

If its still grey then i will clean my old one :) Does anyone have any idea's on cleaning materials? JP
