  1. And finally the reward for keeping mine completely standard is starting to pay off :D Although it is hard living with whats now an older car sometimes, I think I may have to sneak OBD2 on soon!
  2. They have to provide you with financial recompense that gets you to the situation you were in prior to the accident. So they have to give you a value that reflects what they are currently selling for :) When my A6 was written off they offered me £1700, by the end of the conversation I had got them to £2700
  3. Any quick drying stuff people can recommend that replicates OEM finish? (someone has previously jacked on the subframe mount at the front and broken the seal. I have used the halfrauds upol stuff but was unimpressed. The VW stuff (D003500) needs hardener otherwise you;ll be waiting forever for it to dry :(
  4. About time I started tidying up my engine bay now the warmer weather is coming. What products do people use to degrease this cover prior to painting? Do you use high temperature paint?
  5. Bloody hell! About time I thought about buying and building up a rear axle. 111,000 miles now but my passive rear steer stills seems good :)
  6. Another one bites the dust :( Hope the other half gets better soon. I've been falling out of love with mine over the last few weeks. But having cleaned out the arches of mud and putting the summer wheels back on soon found the love again :) p.s. YHPM.
  7. I've got a brand new passat one, but you'd need to find a second hand door lock to go with it.
  8. Wow that's mega low mileage especially with Recaros!
  9. Well, looks like it's getting even worse :( LCplc were useless. Way off my cheapest quote at Santander; 25% deposit and all fees apart from solicitors paid, even so it was hardly an amazing rate at 3.49%...the additional 5% deposit was offered by my Dad but I want to do this on my own. Unfortunately, having spoken to my next best bet (Woolwich) I have now been informed that they will only take half of one years bonus into consideration and not half of four years. This means that they will not lend to me unless I can come up with 25% either. Because I am heavily bonus paid no one seems interested (god knows how comission based jobs like car salespeople survive!), even when I wave over £25,000 in their face. And they wonder why no one is buying houses! It's because the lenders aren't being realistic! So my options are; 1. Accept my Dad's offer; this isn't charity, he will want it back. He has barely lent me anything in life and will doubtless start now, LOL! The worry is I doubt I will be able to afford to for at least two years after I move in. 2. Break the chain and pull out of the sale, loose my dream home but keep saving! 3. Tell estate agent I have to re-evaluate my offer in order to get the mortgage I want and drop my offer price by £1250?
  10. I used Redline MT something or other as recommended by Kev, really good stuff.
  11. It's obsolete from Dealers but available via Classic parts. About to place a big order with them so can find out a price if you want?
  12. Bit of an update. Took it out for a spin yesterday after taking it off SORN. Ran like a dream! I think given the number of times it sparked when I did the spray test I think it's in very early days of coil failure so I shall monitor it and see how i get on :)
  13. Santander seem to be offering a good rate with a 25% deposit; 3.49% with no fees and £100 cashback when you open an account with them. Works out at £428 a month though? Only £20 cheaper than if I put a 20% down I'm sure there must be better value out there though, so I shall keep hunting :) Awaiting a call back from LCPLC
  14. Road Tax and painted the clear bulb on my Chinese Jetta headlight switch to stop being blinded at night :)
  15. Yeah fees seem to be the stumbling block, with my deposit (shade over £25k) they are all coming up at about £450 a month. But the fees vary wildly. My only hope really for better deal now is Santander as they give you £300 back when you open a current account at the same time.
  16. I wouldn't recommend one to be honest. People who think 70+mpg is the be all and end all of a car swear by them and they do have a loyal following... ...BUT. They drive horribly, the diesels are noisy, the 1.6FSi temperamental, odd driving position that is tiring on a long journey and inconvient in town traffic. You get my drift, driving a tunnel does sum it up pretty nicely! Years ago when Audi still made them they were the 'course cars' so I've driven loads and personally wouldn't invest my money in any small product in the VW Group around that time with maybe the exception of the Ibiza.
  17. Nationwide doing some good deals, but they will only lend 3 1/2 times your income. I'm single so that rules me out :(
  18. Trying to get the best deal possible for a First Time Buyer mortgage. I have a couple in principle already but feel there is still better value to be had out there. Anyone a broker? Want some commission for a super cheap deal ;)
  19. Common problems; - Anti Roll Bar Links - Anti Roll Bars - Top mounts - Fuel Pumps - Rear shock bump stops perishing - EGR problems on FSi and TDi engines - Make sure all trim is intact as expensive to replace - Convenience Control Units - Check clutch for bite, should be near the top of the pedal. Most are driven/owned by incapable middle-class women so they are nearly always fooked. - Air Con pumps known to fail so check operation - Check the open sky roof if it's got it. You can get the bonnet off by twisting the two caps on the inspection flap.
  20. Rost off ice is great stuff, saved my bacon many a time. Heat is the next step step as you say and plenty of copper slip when you put the new bolt in ;)
  21. VR6 Piston Ring sets for anyone interested or doing a rebuild? OEM part. P/N 021198155 Six of these would normally set you back £338. I've got two sets here for £190 each :)
