Jim 2 Posted December 23, 2004 Well classic VAG 'needing a seat after being told a price' moment a little earlier.. pulled into my local Audi dealers (who are a lot closer than my VW dealers) to ask about a proper 4 wheel alignment which I really need to get done.. he casually announces to me that its 2 hours labour which comes to.... £183!!!! Thats llike £90'ish per hour!! Looks like I need to find somewhere else for that work!
Majik 0 Posted December 23, 2004 You asked for it! Its much cheaper to go to a tyre place that do wheel alignment got mine done for about £50 at elite in essex, also most dealers dont have laser aligment they use mechanical guages which i feel is not as accurate. Bally 0 Posted December 23, 2004 VW are taking the piss!! I used to use Xtreme which did a good job.. used STS in bedford a few times but are very expensive!!
ben16v 0 Posted December 23, 2004 my local VW did 4 wheel tracking, camber etc £70!!!?? i reckon thats ok in the current market?
Jim 2 Posted December 23, 2004 I'm petrified of actually taking my car to VW themselves because of all the horror stories.. but I might drop by their show rooms and see how much they charge for a full 4 wheel alignment. Its so hard finding somewhere you trust to look after your pride and joy! :(
atif 0 Posted December 23, 2004 JIm, In Coventry, Both Kwik Fit and Britannia Tyres do 4 Wheel Allignment at a fraction of the cost! also you can watch them while they do it on your car! i have used both of them and would reccomend Kwik Fit! :)
daves16v 1 Posted December 23, 2004 Its so hard finding somewhere you trust to look after your pride and joy! :( Can't agree more mate. I had 4 wheel laser alignment done at Nottingham Alignment services, took about 45 to 60 mins, cost £38 and I drove off very happy chappie. It'd almost be as cheap to drive to Notts to have it done. Tekara 0 Posted December 23, 2004 Just had mine done with VW, my mechanic took it there as one of the jobs id booked the car in for with him. On the invoice he's charged me £90 for a full 4 wheel alignment.
Jim 2 Posted December 23, 2004 Hm well cheers for the responses folks. Not sure what to do... I know Britannia do laser alignment but I wasn't aware that they did 4 wheel alignment.. i'll go hunting around after christmas and get this first job (on a particularly long and expensive list of things) out of the way. Cheers!
Supercharged 2 Posted December 24, 2004 Jim, best to go to a bodyshop, not a tyre place or standard garage....
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted December 24, 2004 I'd take it to Stealth Jim.... only down the road from you! I know they don't have laser tools but my car always feels absolutely spot on and mega planted when leaving there :) Vince is VERY clued up on Golf/Corrado geometry. Besides, the 4 wheel thing only shows you what the rear alignment is, you cannot make adjustments to it (easily) if it's off anyway.
Guest Posted December 24, 2004 jimsG60, based going to a body shop that does insurance work, most likely place to have the laser kit. It cost me 100 ish on mine

Aha.. well I didnt know that Stealth did a geometry setup otherwise I would have talked to them first. But i'll definately get in touch with them as I trust them implicitly with my car! dtjames 0 Posted December 25, 2004 4 wheel alignment @ Hi-Q costs £25. Fortunately, my m8 works there and does it for nothing for me each time I go for something - even a coffee ! Lucky I guess.
stevemac 0 Posted December 25, 2004 Laser alignment cost me £80, 3 months ago. That also included fitting a new driver's side tie rod too.. Had it done at a VW specialist here in Birmingham. First class job..

I was very happy with my £38 alignment and thought it was very good value for money. It's just a shame some places rip you off.
