joebloggsVR69 0 Posted February 7, 2005 Thought it was about time to put a few pics up of my Storm This is what it looked like when I bought it, I always thought it looked rather dark, but the paint code in the boot was Mystic Blue, and I knew it had been given a full respray at some point prior to me buying it.... joebloggsVR69 0 Posted February 7, 2005 Anyway, 8 months on, and I decided to give it a full respray. Glass out, doors off, the works. I've ended up spending a fortune over the last month (respray costs + new parts) Now this is what Mysic Blue should actually look like! Picked it up from the sprayers today 8)

joebloggsVR69 0 Posted February 7, 2005 oxfordpaul - yes my wheels are a right mess! Was gonna get them refurbed, but may well be interested in your set, I'll PM you :D How much did it cost? Lets just say I've spent a couple of months wages   And yeah, I dont like having to leave it on the road like that... must find a house with a nice garage - but living in london means I've got pratically no chance of getting a mortgage
joebloggsVR69 0 Posted February 7, 2005 Thanks Stel :D
Rado16v 0 Posted February 7, 2005 Thats absolutely stunning from the pics. Is the paint work as good in real life? Can I ask where you had the work done? Cheers Amit
Phil K 0 Posted February 7, 2005 That looks like a very good paint job.. love that colour too (best Storm colour IMO) Are you planning to keep it completly standard? Could do with a bit of a drop IMO unless you live in an area with lots of speed bumps...
joebloggsVR69 0 Posted February 7, 2005 The pictures dont do it justice, it looks fantastic in the flesh 8) BTW, I bought it last year off your mate with all the Storms lol  Got the work done from a guy in Willesden, North London. Got him to spray my mk2 GTI about 7 years ago, and that still looks mint. He's a Jag/Daimler/Bentley specialist and he used all the top quality paints for the job 8) But obviously, it dont come cheap. At the end of the day, I know the bodywork will be sound for years. The guy that came to remove/refit the glass while it was at the workshop couldnt beleive what an amazing job they've done, and he's taking his '60s beetle there for a restoration
joebloggsVR69 0 Posted February 7, 2005 Yeah I think I might buy some FK Silverline X's sometime soon. All I'm planning is a suspension drop, white repeaters, and of course, a supercharger 8) I've been thinking about putting the side strips back on - what'dya reckon? Clean lines like it is now, or stick em back on?
Rado16v 0 Posted February 7, 2005 Thought it rang a bell, he's got 2 green ones at the moment! Come out looking trumps! Can you please post details, got a few things that need doing. Leave it looking clean BTW George. Amit

chargedupstorm 0 Posted February 7, 2005 Beautiful... I know I'm slightly biased but Mystic Blue Pearl is truely the best colour in the world (Gulp) .... wishing I hadn't got bitten by the modification bug now ;-/
DaveStorm 0 Posted February 7, 2005 Drool. So thats what Mystic Blue would have looked like 10 years ago when brand new...... truly stunning. 8) 8)
joebloggsVR69 0 Posted February 7, 2005 Cheers guys When I first saw it last week, just before they'd finished, I was truly amazed. It really did look like a brand new corrado (Apart from the scabby wheels ) The old paint was sh!t - didnt look anywhere near as pearlescent. The guy that sprayed it says whoever painted it last must have used cheap paints. The glass wasnt even removed last time it was painted, and the laquer was peeling around the windscreen. Hence my choice for a full respray
Storm 0 Posted February 8, 2005 Did he take the old paint off?
joebloggsVR69 0 Posted February 8, 2005 Did he take the old paint off? Of course! He's no cowboy

Kevin Bacon 5 Posted February 8, 2005 He's a Jag/Daimler/Bentley specialist and he used all the top quality paints for the job 8) Hi mate, lovely paintwork. Have you got any more details of this sprayer? I'm thinking of getting mine done later on in the year and want the best possible job done. There are one or two local sprayers that are good but I don't think they can match that workmanship unless I hound them constantly! Do you know what paint he uses? Glasurit, Sikkens, Standox etc etc? And finally, what am I looking at cost wise? £3K? Cheers K
joebloggsVR69 0 Posted February 8, 2005 I'll give him a call and find out what paint he uses And £3k - bang on  But.. That's excluding all the extra parts I bought, which break when they have to remove them. Front door window surrounds in particular. So that cost several hundred more... If you took it to him totally stripped down, glass out etc. it would obviously cost a lot less I think he under estimated just how much had to come off when he gave me the original quote. And he told me the paint cost him a lot more than he'd first thought (although he wouldnt give me figures..) The place is called "EN Auto Works", Willesden, North London. I'll dig out the phone number tonight
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted February 8, 2005 Cool thanks for the info. I know a £3K paint job when I see one (even in photos) so my estimate was surprisingly accurate, LOL! I'd prefer to do it locally if a strip down is required but I'd be keen to have a chat with him about it. Ice Grey Violet has quite a few hues in it aswell, so that's not going to be cheap either :(
