CazzaVR 0 Posted February 16, 2005 Had the engine mounts replaced the other day, car felt great on drive home. Drove next morning and it felt like the driver's side wheel was driving over some small bumps, and makes a bit of a clonking sound :? - this disappeared at speed. It's still doing it, but only at low speed and not all the time. Doesn't feel right though :( Any ideas? Had a quick look and can't see anything out of the ordinary. Could it be related to having the mounts changed? Cheers.
stevemac 0 Posted February 16, 2005 Worn CV joint ? May have been disturbed when the mounts were fitted - depending which mount was done.
Joe M 0 Posted February 16, 2005 What type of engine mounts did you get? Ive noticed something similar since fitting a vibratech rear.
CazzaVR 0 Posted February 17, 2005 Had them all done. GSF rear and gearbox, Turn 2 front (which I'll prob change 'cos of vibration at low revs). It feels like there's something catching somewhere as the wheel turns. Cheers guys.
khurrado 0 Posted February 18, 2005 ive got the same problem, initially it was the strut mounting clunking, which has been changed. Now the wheel arch linings are rubbing in full lock, or more so they are catching, making an awful sound. Also there is rubbing, which is due to -ve camber on the wheels. Not good. CazzaVR 0 Posted February 21, 2005 Well, it's going to the local VW specialist tomorrow- hopefully it will be just the CV joint. I'll keep y'all posted :)

jboyslick 0 Posted February 24, 2005 Andy seen your thread. How much did the cv joint cost? I have the same on the rear passenger side, but only occasionally and at low speeds, did they give you any advice on when it should be done? and if it would cause other damage to the car :? stevemac 0 Posted February 24, 2005 jboyslick, CV joints are only fitted to the front - knocking on the rear will be something different. Possibly exhaust knocking on rear axle or rear shocker mountings.
jboyslick 0 Posted March 1, 2005 stevemac, Clunking noise was the middle/rear section of the exhaust, it had come away from the bottow of the car, hence on reaching bumps in the road the clunking noise appears. Cheers for that, all welded now normal service resumes :D
