Aus 0 Posted March 21, 2005 This isn't on my Corrado, but a problem with the family car - a Passat estate. With no warning, the boot won't stay open ... I guess the hydraulic rods have stopped working but odd that it happened suddenly, and both at the same time ... any ideas???
Bally 0 Posted March 21, 2005 I'd say the hydraulic rods are dead...
Aus 0 Posted March 21, 2005 But seems odd that both died instantly?!
Bally 0 Posted March 21, 2005 with the weight of the boot lid, the other ones going to find it hard to stay up!!
GIXXERUK 0 Posted March 22, 2005 perhaps they havent both gone but it takes two to hold it ?
VR6 0 Posted March 22, 2005 But seems odd that both died instantly?! You know elephants go to one place to die? Instead of elephants, because that would just be silly, maybe 3 pigeons and an otter (on their last legs) decided to die inside your boot lid. This could explain the extra weight that is now causing the boot lid to shut. :?:
Henny 0 Posted March 22, 2005 Tom? Lay off the drugs mate... Most boot lids need BOTH of the struts to hold it open/assist the opening... The odds are that they've been on their way out for a while and have finally got to the point that they're not strong enough to hold the lid open anymore... fla 9 Posted March 22, 2005 Replace them both as even if one were to have been okayish it will have been taking more than half the load and would likely fail some time in the future. May be worth getting some nice chrome ones - check on ebay, saw some recently for about £15 a pair.
