CazzaVR 0 Posted July 4, 2003 Hi all, want to get some 16's for the VR- what wheel offset do I need? I don't want to use spacers. Cheers!

Fine wine, Belgian chocs. 1 Posted July 4, 2003 I've just checked the BBS fitment list and they list an ET35 for the VR6. The wheels I recently put on mine are ET35 and look right. I would imagine that ET46 would sit too far inboard. http://corrado.atx-hosting.co.uk/viewtopic.php?t=1719
stormseeker 0 Posted July 4, 2003 Hmmm, I just did a quick search and came up withthis thread in which kevhaywire states... The Speedlines are ET46 and the VW manual says the wheels have to be ET43 for the VR6, so anything from 43 to 46 will work :?: :? :?: (later) edit: just checking a few aftermarket wheels and they all quote ET35 for the VR too. S I guess ET35 it is then
Fine wine, Belgian chocs. 1 Posted July 4, 2003 The original Speedlines are only 6.5x15 though so 7x16 replacements are obviously half an inch wider consequently the inner rim is 6mm closer to the inner wheelarch if you keep the original offset. :? The offset needs to be increased by at least this 6mm to give the same clearance so it needs to be between ET37 and ET40 by that reckoning. :? If the replacement wheels turn out to be 7.5x16 then in theory they should be ET34 to ET37. :? In practise it makes very little difference as long as there are no bodywork clearance problems and most aftermarket wheels are only available in certain offsets anyway. :D If you go somewhere reputable for the wheels then you won't have to worry about all this as they'll sort it all out! :D :D :D
stormseeker 0 Posted July 4, 2003 Now the penny drops! I think I get it! Different wheel widths need different offsets! :D
Fine wine, Belgian chocs. 1 Posted July 4, 2003 It confuses the arse off me to be honest and I sell several sets of alloys a week. :D
CazzaVR 0 Posted July 4, 2003 Cheers guys! :? So ET35 should be a safe bet then? As you say, most websites say it will fit a VR6.
cheesy 0 Posted July 4, 2003 I had 7x17's with a et35 on my 1.8 16v think standard offset is et 35 the 18's that are being fitted at present 7x18 et 37/
W3RKD 0 Posted July 4, 2003 Now the penny drops! I think I get it! Different wheel widths need different offsets! :D kind of right !! is a confusing issue but in one of the last 2 issues of the golf mag they had a very good right up on wheels expalining it all .. also depends on which style of rim you choose too ie big rim etc... sorry for making this even more confusing
CazzaVR 0 Posted July 4, 2003 Can anyone recommend a good place to get a tyre/wheel package from? Went to my local place and was quoted silly money :? :(
Mike Edwards 0 Posted July 4, 2003 One other thing to consider: Just because one wheel at a particular offset fits doesn't mean a different wheel of the same offset will also fit. The 16" Audi wheels on my MoonBlue VR6 are only 1mm off the standard offset, but need 3mm spacers to clear the calipers....
