AND7 F 0 Posted June 17, 2005 Hi - I have just bought a 94 2.0 16v in satin silver with a genuine 68000 on the clock - it's my first Corrado and I am after a bit of advice I'm sure I've read somewhere that the cambelt change is due at 70000 but I can't be sure - can somebody help me out please? I've looked throught the service history and it hasn't been done yet Any advice would be appreciated - Cheers, Andy

If there's no history showing it having been done then you could be risking a head rebuild every time you drive it. David.

AND7 F 0 Posted June 24, 2005 Cheers for the advice guys - had the cambelt and tensioner done for £150. The guy said they should last for 60k. Will post some pics when I get my camera sorted! Andy
AND7 F 0 Posted June 24, 2005 Of the car obviously. Not the cambelt...
Sanj 0 Posted June 24, 2005 Mmmm My service book says that the cambelt was done at 61k, I bought the car at 71k a few years back. Its now approaching 90k should i get it replaced or not. Just a bit worried that I'm gonna get ripped off getting it replaced, anyone now if I can do it myself or can give me a rough estimate on how much it'll cost? I think I will get it doen just for the peace of mind!
h100vw 0 Posted June 24, 2005 The bits cost about 50 quid. If you would consider doing a head gasket yourself then IMO you would have the abilty to do the belt no problems. Gavin
RW1 0 Posted June 24, 2005 VW specify it on the 80k/8th year service, car is over 10 years old so if it's not been done, get it done asap Sorree to blow the VW spec on this one chaps. Due to the 16v double overhead cam and the chain drive involved, it really puts a strain on the cam belt, even relatively youthfull belts. The 16v weakness is that the engine crank's sprocket drive rips the teeth off the cam belt if there is any sign of weakness. Better to change it at 40,000 miles intervals and certainly no more than 50,000 miles intervals. Oh, and don't let me stand anywhere near your Corrado 16v when you are blipping the throttle with the clutch disengaged or in neutral (strain at it's worst for the belt). I've had 3 owner's 16v's go, right there and then in front of me. When checked, no teeth left on the cam belt at the engine crank belt drive area. Teeth sheared thro' and a flat belt both sides. Sanj 0 Posted June 25, 2005 The question now remains, is should I take mine to VAG they charge £40 + VAT per hour so at the most it should come to about £200 inc parts at the most or am I being optimistic!
Supercharged 2 Posted June 25, 2005 I think VAG have set prices for these jobs...
