steveo29 0 Posted July 3, 2005 okay i got hold of a gunson timing light that has an advance dial l hooked it up , ran the engine until warm, then disconected the blue temp sender..reved past 3k 3 times .then i set the dial to 6 deg and twisted the dist until the tdc marks on the cambelt cover/bottom pulley lined up. is that right ? never used one with dial before, i realise the bottom pulley isnt as accurate as the flywheel

Supercharged 2 Posted July 3, 2005 Don't you rev it 3 times past 3k to get it out of timing mode?
steveo29 0 Posted July 3, 2005 oh..just realised i set the timing while holding the revs around 2k....was that right or wrong didnt seem to alter it anyway
h100vw 0 Posted July 4, 2005 Steve disconnecting the BTS stops it from advancing at all. You can do it at tickover or 2k+. The reason you rev it 3 times is to make sure it is not idling up from a cold start. If you notice when the car is cold it ticks over faster. Rev it up 3 times and it settles down to normal. Tempest 0 Posted July 4, 2005 Yes, you have to rev it to 3x >3000 rpm after reconnecting the BTS as well. Tempest
