'Karman' badge on the gearstick surround?

Recommended Posts

Nope, standard on all Corrados, except the Storm, which has a Storm badge.

(Key way to find a real Storm)

One of their main skills was in producing convertible options for many different car models, they also designed the automatic retractable hardtop you get on the SLK...

Website here, but I can't find the C on their timeline :(

i'm way over here in canada and i own two cars that came out of karmann. 8)

i was able to find the corrado in their history.. its just hidden in that flash presentation. they used to have a better history page, too bad they changed it. if you're able to find it.. the ford xr4ti is on the same page, that's the other car i have from karmann. not the best looking, but its a 4 cylinder turbo to the rear wheels... and either mine was modded before i got it.. or the 145hp karmann lists has no problem spinning the tires going into 3rd gear! :D

Did they not make a convertible C as well? Would be great for all this hot weather we're getting. Hasn't someone on the forum got pics of a project convertible?

does any1 know what karmann means???

It's the name of a coach-building company... Same as Ghia used to be before Ford bought them and turned it into the name for a level of trim (Hence the Karmann-Ghia VW car that was based on a beetle but looked fabulous...)

Huge part of German history. Designed the 911 body because it evolved from the Karmann Ghia variant on the Beetle shell. If I'm not mistaken they also had a hand in the design of one of the Trumph TRs (not Michellotti's ones, there was another one....dont remember which) - and they worked with Truimph when the Dolly Sprint engine was being developed in BL Special Tuning division. I think they worked on the suspension design for Triumph and also on chassis validation. 8)

And yes it was the name of a guy who had really decent connections with some of the finest designers in Germany and Italy. The Ghia family connection sold out to Ford. What was odd about the Corrado was that it was completely sorted by Karmann as a plasticine body. VW only came up with the rest (I suppose thats when the trouble happened :p )

The journey starts in 1901, when Mr. Wilhelm Karmann took over the factory of the coach-builder Christian Klages at Osnabrück. We will present models and vehicles of the past decades in detail. The car which made us famous all over the world is presented in a separate chapter: Karmann Ghia Story.

This is where you will find all details, from the beginnings over production volumes down to individual chassis numbers.
