stevemac 0 Posted October 25, 2005 My left front one is Lucas (new) - not sure what make the old one one the other side is. You mean they're different to each other of different to what's on the car ?
cubed 0 Posted October 25, 2005 they,re different to eachother. but it seems only by manufacturer, apart from those little screw holes on the back of the casing,(lucas) its rainin hard here if its slows i,l look whats on it! pretty sure they,re girlings just wondering if both manufacturers made the part? this lucas ones the left too
stevemac 0 Posted October 25, 2005 U mean it won't fit because the screw holes are in the wrong place ? Get me the Lucas part number & I'll check fitment when I get to work tomorrow. Unusual to be supplied a pair of calipers which are different makes.
cubed 0 Posted October 25, 2005 i,l take a pic or two, wont take a minute, all the fitments are right, its just two extra holes tapped into the casing, i,l go take a shot or two now.
NickVR6 0 Posted October 25, 2005 ATE or LUCAS are good aparantly, you may have one of each but they are allways tweaking the casting slightly. In my ongoing experience this week, if it says guttmann on it give it back. Mine had too narrow a casting to go over new pads, even if you took the pistong and the rubbers out of the equation!! think your ok there though bud
cubed 0 Posted October 25, 2005 here we go, on the left is the lucas and the right the girling,as far as i can see they,re the same apart from those holes? unfortunatly cant get under the car to offer the lucas up!
stevemac 0 Posted October 25, 2005 I have no idea what the screw holes are for . Could just be that the Lucas one is made to fit more than 1 type of vehicle.
cubed 0 Posted October 25, 2005 yeah just a bit wierd eh?? they dont seem to lead anywhere ! just wondering if to fit it or get another girling? i could be worrying over nothing!

stevemac 0 Posted October 26, 2005 Guys - Lucas Girling are one company! Not sure if they were 15 years ago though ? Different designs of caliper would suggest mabe they weren't.

stevemac 0 Posted October 26, 2005 p.s gsf hadnt got em when i rang!!Suffice to say that we DO stock them (in quite large quantities) - our application listing has been updated today . Same caliper fits a large amount of vehicles in the VAG range & we had completely missed the fact that they also fit both the 1.8 & 2.0-16v Corrado's.
Dubbin 24/7 0 Posted October 27, 2005 Is GSF the cheapest place to get front and rear calipers......?? Will be needing to replace mine shortly! Cheers
cubed 0 Posted October 27, 2005 from what i could find yes gsf are about the cheapest, as i say from what i found. i paid a little more from a local place, needed em quick though!
stevemac 0 Posted October 27, 2005 Dubbin 24/7, Just in case your local branch's computer system hasn't yet been updated - make a note of the GSF front caliper part numbers mentioned earlier in this thread. Rear calipers are listed on our system, your local branch will be able to find these without a problem. There is an old unit surcharge on each caliper - this will be refunded when you return the old calipers - preferably in the boxes that your new ones arrive in.
