Changing my timing chains

Recommended Posts

I'm just in the process of changing the chains and tensioner's on my VR6 and i don't know weather to go for genuine chains or some from GSF.Are the one's from GSF going to be good quality ?also what about seal's and gasket's genuine or not?One other question what brand of sealer should i use on the timing chain cover's?

Cheers

Gaskets will be fine - we (GSF) use OE manufacturers (either Elring or Reinz). Good idea to change the head bolts too. Not sure if we stock the timing chains.

IIRC the chain gear is made by SACHs, so if the GSF ones are then they're OK to use. Pretty sure Stealth use them with no problems.

Vince told me he gets all the internal engine bits straight from VW, apart from the tappets.

VW parts have a 2 year warranty for stuff like that.

Heardy, I may have to pick your brains in the next few months, when i finally get round to making a start on changing my clutch. Damn home improvements seen to be taking priority at the moment, the poor VR hasn't left my garage in 3 weeks :(

Anyway, i'm gonna do the chains and tensioners while the gearbox is off...
