4stud 0 Posted December 26, 2005 Hello chaps, My mot is due next week and i really need 4 new discs. Trouble is i cant afford it because i have to repair every other problem with it. So what i want to know is will i get away with turning the lip off the edge of the disc in the lathe? I know it sounds a bit dodgy but the lip is not that big. Will they notice? Supercharged 2 Posted December 26, 2005 In theory they should measure the thickness of the disc, vented 280mm discs are 22mm new and the tolerence is 20mm... I don't think it's worth it tbh when new discs all round will be less than a ton from the dealer... slap them on an interest free CC!
_Monkey 0 Posted December 26, 2005 If money's tight, you can get away with it. Just DON'T forget you've done it!
4stud 0 Posted December 26, 2005 I've just slapped 2 front discs on the old credit card. Might just turn the rear down as they only do 30 percent anyway. Thanks for the advice.
Supercharged 2 Posted December 26, 2005 Yeah, plus you wanna do the rear bearings at the same time really...
steveo29 0 Posted December 28, 2005 hang on....they wont be measureing your discs or anything on the mot if the brakes work it will pass, they will try the brakes on a roller and have a chart with vehicle wieght to decide pass or fail yes you can have the lip off on a lathe no probs, just dont make it too thin
