-Neil- 0 Posted February 11, 2006 i have got terrible starting problems with my 9a 2ltr 16v. I have done the test of switching on the ignition on and off 4-5 times before starting and this has improved it as i believe this builds up the fuel pressure it loses while the car is stood still. Can anyone let me know where i would find this one way valve or something related to it? Many Thanks, Neil
bcstudent 0 Posted February 11, 2006 It's fitted to the outlet of the main fuel pump (under the car). It's only about £15 and it's not hard to change if you don't mind having petrol running down your arm!
-Neil- 0 Posted February 11, 2006 is it a common thing for the vavle to 'go' leaving me with no pressure and terrible starting problems?
bcstudent 0 Posted February 12, 2006 Apparently so. I changed mine a few weeks ago while I was down there changing the fuel filter. It was more of a precautionary measure really as it's not the nicest area of the car to be working. It's not necessarily the non-return valve that's causing the problem though. System pressure can be lost via a number of components. Are your starting problems from hot or cold?
-Neil- 0 Posted February 15, 2006 all from cold. BUT more noticible from when i, Drive 2 minutes (literally, im lazy) to work, park on a slight backwards hill so the car is leaning backwards a bit, leave it for 4 hours, then start the car, it really struggles to start! bcstudent 0 Posted February 15, 2006 My 1.8 16v used to be exactly the same and when it did eventually start it'd run on two or three cylinders for a few seconds. After two years of that I went through the entire fuel system and cleaned/checked the components one-by-one. In the end I changed the fuel filter, the pump non-return valve and the injectors. It starts and runs perfectly now (as perfectly as you'd expect from such a basic system at least). Stripping and cleaning the fuel metering head made a marked improvement too. The car used to idle at 1400rpm if driven at a reasonably high speed for any length of time. That doesn't happen now either.
corradokid 0 Posted March 20, 2006 Bc student, is the pump return valve the same as the pressure accumilator?
