Supercharged 2 Posted March 11, 2006 Could also be the thermostat housing/seal
MattWilde 10 Posted March 14, 2006 i had a leak similar to that until yesterday. was the thermostat housing, apparntly made out of recycled bumper plastic :S
StuartFZR400 0 Posted March 15, 2006 If you're getting a new water pump to fit your self, buy VAG. I bought the g s f for the Golf and was one tatty peice of work, nasty rough edges etc. Im sure you know to ensure all surfaces are clean when putting back together and use a new seal
Dilated 0 Posted March 20, 2006 I've just found the leak on mine - looks like the thermostat housing. Any ideas on how much these are? GSF don't do them apparently, so i'm assuming main dealer only?
Niges16V 0 Posted March 20, 2006 If you're getting a new water pump to fit your self, buy VAG. Definatly, especially as they may offer an 'exchange' which they do for the 9a so is only around £30 IIRC.
iow_corrado_g60 0 Posted March 20, 2006 darren says he thinks mine might be the thermostat housing too so gonna get it over too him as need to sort it before stealth RR day
Dilated 0 Posted March 21, 2006 I'm hoping to change mine this weekend. Has anyone done it before, looks a bit of a bastard to get to! My local veedub specialist is getting one in for me, but I still don't know how much they are. Any ideas?
iow_corrado_g60 0 Posted March 21, 2006 what for sorry mate thermo housing or water pump?
Rossco 0 Posted March 21, 2006 Ive got a GSF water pump on my rad and its sweet as, no complaints or leaks
Dilated 0 Posted March 21, 2006 what for sorry mate thermo housing or water pump? Thermostat Housing. For a VR if that makes a differences. Can't seem to get a price on them.
Geo 0 Posted March 21, 2006 VR one is different. I wouldn't say it's too expensive off the dealer.
GazzaG60 0 Posted March 21, 2006 id only use a vag pump. i put a new pump on the G60 a while back. i bought it from a gsf type place and im sure it isn't as efficient as the vag one. maybe a different impeller. only a tenner more so go vag.
Supercharged 2 Posted March 21, 2006 VAG is the same price is you buy the whole pump (not just the impeller) - the VW impellers are plastic rather than metal...
iow_corrado_g60 0 Posted March 21, 2006 yeah i just got one from my local steelers and its about £60 but when i return the old one i get some money back YAH!
