double-6s 0 Posted March 20, 2006 yeah i'll ring andy in the moaning. that sounds like my kinda price mate. if the truth be told, i would quite like to do a 24v transplant, but i also love the hell out of the 12v so its all good :) when i can sort the charger, and get a peloquin shipped over, i'll be sorted (and having a complete mare with insurance at that stage!) rixy 0 Posted May 1, 2006 who is PSI? what sized pistons would i have to go to to re bore my 2.9 raddo? I also love the 12v, and dont really fancy a conversion to 24v, and i can do all the rebuild work myself, except the cnc bits etc. how much could i be looking at for parts and cnc work alone? ardandy 0 Posted May 1, 2006 I just want to know one (ok two) things, and I think a lot do too. Price for 24v conversion = £??? Price for 12v full rebuild = £??? All in, if a garage has to do the work. Obviously it's an estimate, not expecting a real quote or anything. Also, if I got a conversion, wouldn't having a second hand 24v engine cause more long term probs compared to a rebuilt 12v? Isn't a full rebuild almost as good as getting a new engine? Stan 24v 0 Posted May 1, 2006 PSI Tuning Pistons Price for 24v = £2500-£3000 Price for 12v rebuild = £2000-£2500 24v is a newer engine with better running gear, VVT, more torque and more power, its what the 12v should have been ;)
ardandy 0 Posted May 1, 2006 Is having a 12v rebuild as good as having a new engine? My only prob with the 24v is that the engine will be used/unknown?
Stan 24v 0 Posted May 1, 2006 A) Yes if done properly B) Depends if you can get a low miler and someone to check it out for you. Mine only had 38k on it.
rolex 0 Posted May 1, 2006 24v is a newer engine with better running gear, VVT, more torque and more power, its what the 12v should have been ;) Stan 24v do you konw the bhp an torque difference in the two engines? And how do they feel when driving?(difference wise)
Stan 24v 0 Posted May 1, 2006 12v - 190BHP 181lbs Torque 24v - 204BHP 199lbs Torque. Mine has been chipped too and should be producing around 220BHP. It drives a lot smoother, and more powerful. As someone said before, the 24v is doing things where the 12v would still be thinking about it 8)
rolex 0 Posted May 1, 2006 cool!! weight wise are they the same? an no need for gearbox change? (sorry for all the questions)
ardandy 0 Posted May 1, 2006 Pretty much, and No. (from what I've read) When I bought my car I said to myself it'd be the best example of a standard VR6 I could get (when finished of course!), so on that hat, I'd prob go for a rebuild myself. Also easier on the insurance too I suppose.
double-6s 0 Posted May 1, 2006 Yeah I agree. Rebuild it and if you want more power get a charger. I almost went across to the dark side and got a 24v. Going to go for a full stealth rebuild though.
rolex 0 Posted May 1, 2006 have you looked into a TURBO  what sort of price would that be? an if power is order of the day, what about a 20v con version, or am i just wondering in the wrong direction

Chris VR6nos 0 Posted May 2, 2006 Price for 24v = £2500-£3000 Price for 12v rebuild = £2000-£2500 Christ, you could get a Schimmel log manifold in with that price and if you built it yourself you could probably manage to include the charge cooler on that price too! People eh! Chris
