sciroccotune 0 Posted April 6, 2006 Hi guys, some of this may have been said before but i just want to clear up a few things :oops: i have just put 280mm discs on my 16v using VR carriers. My question is which pads should i use? I assume that both 16v and g60 pads are the same shape but the g60 has more compound -i.e thicker. I managed to used a new set of pads from my old set up which i had run for a while to make sure they fit (used about 2mm) Am i right in thinking that i need to cut 2mm of the sliders to allow 16v pads to be fitted new? Also is it possible not to screw the callipers back enough and cause the pads to rub on the disc? or will they self adjust? cheers 8) Quote Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Riley 0 Posted April 6, 2006 taking 2mm off the pads rings a bell to me... :?: could be wrong though. :oops: edit:while im here,can i ask how much a full 280mm set up is worth? with drilled+grooved discs/braided hoses/calipers/carriers/hubs? as a conversion for mk1 golf etc... sorry for jumping on ya topic m8! neil. What i did was use a set of 280mm carriers and the 16v callipers (was less work than changing teh callipers to). Seems to work i have to say, and from what i can see g60 pads are the same shape as 16v pads but i would like some one to confirm this. Supercharged 2 Posted April 7, 2006 Yeah thats a good price BC as it includes Discs and Pads, these alone are about £80 new from VW/GSF... corradophil 3 Posted April 7, 2006 16v callipers work with the 280mm carriers, but the pads are too thick, 256mm discs are thinner than 280mm, so you have to remove some pad material - not ideal. I'd change the callipers and carriers to convert to G60 spec, which is what I did. I used Mk3 Golf components though as they were easier to find than a G60 Corrado in the breakers... When using 16V calipers with G60/ VR carriers, just get 2mm machined off the caliper sliders - hex end (this cost me a fiver for all four). Obvious advantage here is not having to change the caliper over... This gives the extra 2mm needed to accommodate the thicker disc. Then use pads for the original caliper, i.e. 16v jobbies.
