Couple of very quick G60 questions

Recommended Posts

Do G60s have a dipstick with a flat blade-like profile or a round one?

And is the breather (press. reg. valve) always flat or did earlier cars come with a mk2 Golf style round one?

Grateful for any assisitance.

Yes the dipsticks the flat 88- style.

And the corrados/golfs had the square breather and the rallyes had the round one.

Cheers Darren. Looks like I have a dodgy dipstick tube then.

I have the flat style dipstick but it won't go through. It doesn;t seem like there's a blockage - if I blow down the dipstick tube, air comes out the breather hole (engine is in garage btw).

How easy is it to replace the whole tube?

mr.brown, the plastic bit on the top just pulls off, but it will probably break and need some careful surgery to remove it from the dip-stick tube. The metal part of the tube is a push fit (pushed HARD!) into the block... you should be able to pull it out if you can get a good enough grip on it without damaging it... 8)

Oh, and some of the very early euro corrados also had the round breather... Kongo's one did... 8)

As do the 1990 US-spec G60s like mine :-)
