Rob_B 0 Posted October 18, 2006 well ladies and gentlemen, i have some low oil pressure well i get 1.5 bar at 2000 rpm at 80 degrees on the MFA this was tested using a capillary oil gauge as used by VW so far i have changed the pump and all the bearings seem to be ok, no knocking or rattles. it develops 4bar when cold but this is to be expected as the oil is thick. as you can see the pressure is low, but not mega low so if anyone has some suggestions, that would be fantastic at this rate the warranty on the engine will be out before i get to really use it!!! many thanks, Rob
W3RKD 0 Posted October 18, 2006 Did You assemble the engine rob?.. What shells did you use ?
dr_mat 0 Posted October 18, 2006 Does ETKA or bentley manual have any actual *figures* for the correct oil pressures? Anyone know what they are?
DierWolf 0 Posted October 19, 2006 Should be min 2 bar on idle.... Mine just stared doing the exact same thing, actually below 1 bar at idle and at startup its way up at 5 bars.
dr_mat 0 Posted October 19, 2006 Vince says ... (for 'tis he) ... 2 bar at 2000 rpm. Idle pressure can be lower than that. He doesn't seem to have any documentation to back this up, but I've heard so many slightly different pieces of information about this that I'm beginning to doubt my own sanity.. Adam Darby 0 Posted October 19, 2006 what temp is you oil running at, it get's thinner the hotter it get's don't it, so its not running to too all the time is it, maby the oil cooler is blocked or summit. I think that a mocal oil cooler or something along these lines is better anyway for a constant preassure.
dr_mat 0 Posted October 19, 2006 I dunno what temp it was at when they tested it, I wasn't there. But see this is the problem. Without a factory book that states: at X degrees C, and Y rpm the oil pressure should be Z bar, you're just guessing aren't ya?
vr6storm 0 Posted October 19, 2006 well going by my 2 different engined Porkers 924S 4cyl 2.5 S4 cold idle 5+bar hot idle 1.5-2bar.....guage only reads up to 5bar 993C4 6cyl 3.6 HO6 cold idle 5+bar hot idle 1.5-2bar......guage only reads up to 5bar what I have found with my C is similar figs apart from cold idle being 8+ bar (tho the guage does go up to 10bar) so I would imagine most engines should show similar figs
Adam Darby 0 Posted October 19, 2006 Ill look on mine and see what it run's hot and hot
Rob_B 0 Posted October 19, 2006 used shells from GSF Darren they are standard size as Mr Werks said the crank hadnt had any material taken off it the general figure being banded about is 2bar at 2000rpm idle can be sod all really some people have mentioned the oil squirters can fail open causing low pressure im still miffed as to what the problem is
Rob_B 0 Posted October 21, 2006 have i discovered a new corrado problem?! or are you guys just holding out on me?

Rob_B 0 Posted October 22, 2006 i think they have a spring inside them which stops them opening before 30psi i still need to sort this guys, anyone?!?!?!
Rob_B 0 Posted October 26, 2006 well after the massive response, i can reveal the crank bearings are fooked and the crank is scored this is great, especially as the engine has less than 2000 miles on it. i also have oil on the spark plugs and some oil and water mixing somewhere. not sure what ive done to deserve all this. must have pissed someone off
Crasher 3 Posted October 26, 2006 The VW specification is an absolute minimum of 2 bar at 2000 rpm at 80°c using 15w/40 oil. Sorry to read you have scored crank bearings. Did you fit the pump yourself?
Rob_B 0 Posted October 26, 2006 pump was fitted by vw mechanic im sorry to find them scored, its a nice early birthday present!
