Well I've come round to the idea of booking mine into the garage to get her a MOT in the coming weeks (crapping myself) and getting some bits done so i should hit the road in early Feb .......still need to bed the charger in aswell

 

i really wanted those leather seats *shakes fist*

Bit off topic but why dont the garage justtake the head light and splitter etc off when spraying!!

Let us know when you are back round this way. haha, sorry buddy - Steve really wanted the Brock from the Red valver so I didn't get much choice! I love the seats though!

I did think it may have been easier but it was a "mates rates" repair and i'm very pleased with the job he did for the price so cant grumble :)

Sadly, the red valver did not get the same love after I sold it and now looks like this :(

still plenty of useful parts on there though (see the breaking thread on here by "twin45") so hopefully will help keep some others on the road! Some nice bits still available too like the half leather seats etc.

anyway, back to the G60...

 

The car has always run hot since I had it but I had been told G60's do this anyway but then recently I noticed a bit of steam coming out of the grill when I got caught in a traffic jam for a bit so thought it wise to investigate further!

 

A bit of research and helpful advice from the guys over on dubforce, I decided a low temp fan switch and thermostat would be a good start. Having been told the part numbers I needed, I called my local dealers who were not particularly helpful and told me the fan switch was not available to order (only to be told later by Matt from "Only Charged Dubs", that he was able to get hold of them via a different main dealer if needed) but by then I had already ordered them from Awesome GTI

As usual, thanks to Steve (twin45) for help fitting the bits. Once fitted, we ran the car up to temperature until the fan cut in....only to find rather than drawing cold air from outside through the engine bay, it had been incorrectly wired up by the previous owner so was blowing warm air through the rad! No wonder the car had been running hot!

 

The water temp is now nice and cool during normal driving, and barely creeping above halfway when sitting with the fan cutting in correctly! This has obviously helped lower the oil temp too although I will be fitting an oil cooler too.

 

While we were at it, we finally fitted my new rocker cover to replace the nasty red one. Although it looks much better, it seems the tabs to fit the cambelt cover have been shaved off in the past so leaving it fitted while the orginal one is blasted and can then be painted a more subtle colour and refitted with the cam cover:

I only saw 2 Corrado's at the whole show including mine! I heard that a few people got turned away at the gate as they could not fit anyone else in, did this happen to you then?

 

I'm in North Essex (near Stansted Airport) so about 45 mins from Rayleigh.

I stayed at my parents in Wickford the night before but went out for a couple of beers with my old mates, by the time I thought I was safe to drive they had stopped allowing people in :(

Not much to update on the G60, so thought I would post up the build on my other Corrado project. A mate gave me an old 1/10th RC car he no longer used:

initially painted in Ford Graphite Grey as I was struggling to get hold of Pearl Grey, the colour was close to pearl grey but the finish was rubbish from a rattle can:

Then I remembered there was a small amount of paint left from when I had the front end of the G60 repaired from the hit and run. Rubbed down and back to the bodyshop :) :

Almost finished, just got a few details to paint and the spoiler to fit. I have some Carbon Vinyl wrap to do the spoiler and may even see if I can make it moveable:

I could not find any 1/10 wheels to match my alloys so may have to get some alloys to match the RC! :)

typically slow progress from me means I've not updated anything for ages!

 

A few of my boost hoses were looking a bit tired to I thought it would be wise to replace & upgrade and give the engine bay a bit of a tidy up..

most of it polished out but the bumper will need spraying again eventually but as the car is a daily, there does not seem any point until after the winter :(

As I had some time off over Christmas I decided a good service was in order so Steve (twin45 on here) and I changed the Cambelt, Water Pump, Oil + filter, Coolant, Dizzy Cap and Rotor Arm as well as replacing the leaking rocker cover gasket.

 

What should have been a fairly straight forward job turned into a massive ball ache with bolts snapping off left right and centre, the car not running right initially when we got it back together and the distributer being somewhat seized when we were trying to adjust the timing!

A slight bonus to all this though was I needed to go on an emergency parts run while Steve carried on working which meant I had the pleasure of driving his awesome Eaton Supercharged mk2 valver...

Eventually, after Steve said a lot of un repeatable words a threatened to burn it a couple of times we finally got it all done at about 6pm on Christmas Eve meaning the last minute christmas shopping i had planned was not possible but huge thanks to him for all his help - he even stayed up working deep into the night on it after I had given up and gone home to bed!

 

I have also been looking into having the Supercharger rebuilt as other than the previous owner stating that the guy he bought the car off said it had been done, I had no history for it.

 

I looked at a couple of specialist companies for this, but Matt @ Only Charged Dubs has been very helpful with advice since I got the car and I had met him previously a couple of times at shows so after some research via the various forums I decided it was worth the extra time / mileage to take the car to him rather than a more local specialist so I finally took the plunge and got it booked in for a stage one rebuild earlier this week.

 

It was a fair trek and a very early start to get to Matt for 9am on Tuesday morning and I think its the furthest north I have ever been :

Things started well enough as everything had recently been removed when we did the cambelt but once Matt had the charger off and taken to bits he did not think the charger had EVER been rebuilt (supposed to be every 40-50k and my cars on 169k ) and noticed some slight damage to the displacer.

 

Although Matt was able to repair this it meant I would have to spend the night in Barnsley. I did venture out to explore a bit and found it quite funny how many people commented on my southern accent - we have a yorkshire lass at work and often have a joke with her about her accent but the boot was on the other foot now so I will think twice in the future! After a 5am start that day though I was shattered and back in the hotel in bed by 8pm

The next morning things started well as Matt had already started working on it before picking me up from the hotel at 10am

 

The car went together quickly but when the moment came to start it, the charger was making some strange noises so it was quickly turned off and removed again. After some fettling from Matt, things were sounding better and I was finally on my way home!

 

I honestly cannot thank Matt at only Charged Dubs (http://www.onlychargeddubs.co.uk/) enough and would certainly recommend him to anyone - he did not try to sell me the most expensive option, instead choosing a rebuild suited to my car and I suspect that given the hassle he had, other specialists may have thrown in the towel and just concluded a new charger was needed.

 

This Corrado has been the most reliable of the 3 I have had so far (touch wood) but everytime I try to be nice and give it some new bits / servicing it seems to fight us and not go to plan, Im starting to think if it aint broke, dont fix it!

 

I now have to run the Charger in for 500 miles just 296.4 to go.........

As I cannot seem to find wheels for my R/C Corrado to match the real one, I decided to try and make the real one look a bit more like the R/C....
