imho i think cos it's got cloth interior no a/c or heated seats, it's a prietty bog standard vr, so for that price it's ok but just because it's got 93000 doesn't mean it's any better than one with 120000 (hence fvagsh) so just be carefull that it's not a trader putting a few extra quid on a c that for a private sale is more likely imho to be around 4500 but still check it out cos if, like he said it's really tidy c you've got yourself a lovely car , i'm going to look at one on saturday keeping my fingers crossed :D

Thats what my thinking was as well Josh, I'm a bit paranoid about going for one with 100,000+ miles. I don't know why because my MKII GTI has 150,000 with no history what so ever, and is still going strong. I think it's because it's such a big expense if something goes wrong, whereas on my golf it's not gonna cost loads. The guy gave me all the salesman BS over the phone, "You'll have to put a deposit down, it'll sell quick" God I hate that!

Hope the one you look at is a gooden mate!

by the sounds of the advert its a trader or part-time trader selling it........dunno about english law but if its a trader selling it (in Scotland)they have to give you at least a 30-day warranty of some description....unless they state it as being "sold as seen"

pricewise its Standard VR6 spec wise so should be the cheaper of all VR6's to buy.....if its in truly excellent condition bodily and mechanically then £5k aint too bad but still try for less

one other thing to do........get a pre-purchase inspection done.....i think some places will do this for about maybe 2-3hours labour charge(or see if a VW dealer has a set price for this) or the cheapest thing to do is pay for it to go thru a MOT test with the seller fixing anything it fails on as part of the deal......do this even it has had a MOT in the previous couple of months

You'll just have to take your list of VR6 checks with you & see for yourself. Thats the only way you can put a value on a car. I mean £5k is cheap for a mint VR & very expensive for a bad one, you just can't tell by an ad. Just remember when you go for a look, you are always in charge of the deal. Take it for a good test drive & get a feel for it. Take a very long & hard look at each panel, lift the carpet in the boot etc.

Good luck anyway,

try not to be put off by over 100k the one i'm going to look at has done 118k but has full vag new spax dampers and springs all the bushes done new pads discs allround heated leather with 17 momos and a few other simple mods like a full stainless exhaust and upgraded wiring loom for lights ect: ( and no it's not on the trader) with a brand new mot and he wants 4500 so they are out there and worth hunting for. oh and yeah i hate a salesman with all the blag puts me off a car straight away but check it out if only for experience in what they are like each is different in it's own way but are worth every penny imo :D

I will definately be getting some sort of inspection done, even if it's an AA one, but I'll probably go down the route of an MOT. I've seen another one on autotrader, which I think is the same spec, but higher miles, for £4250. I may hold out for one with the spec that I want though, no point in rushing these things.

It is a dealership in Oxford selling it, and they look fairly reputable.

Where else should I look then, I've tried Exchange and mart, autotrader, find it, fish 4, but the only one with anything decent is autotrader.

i've only ever used autotrader and with a little patience the one i've wanted has come up but don't forget your going for a car that is prietty rare and like me you know exactly what you want which means your setting yourself up for even more disapointmant but it will turn up eventually :)

well if you can budget for an AA inspection then get the local VW-dealer/VW specialist to do an inspection as they should be able to do this cheaper than what the AA charge(IIRC they charge it as a Luxury/Sports car rate-which aint cheap)also the VW dealer/specialist will know all the little foibles of the C and especially the VR and of course they will have the VAG-COM equipment on site too

something like $200 for the lead and the "license" from an american company called Rosstech and of course you need a laptop to run it.......basically it lets you "speak" to the diagnostic port of most C's...so that you can check(and clear) any fault codes that have been thrown up.....pretty handy fo the VR as there are a lot of wee engine sensors that can cause problems for you if they are kaput......the VW-dealer of course have the "proper" machine for doing this but by all accounts the Rosstech software and leads are well worth getting...especially if you have already got a laptop

a tad dear for a 93L but it is a very well-specced one by the looks of it...........one thing that you must check tho......when was the A/C last re-charged?as this can be a problem area........been bit with that before on my 944 turbo :? not cheap

again if you get it inspected then bargain from there..............btw if its got black leather then that will be one hell of a nice C.........black leather and ice grey violet would be my idea combo on any C 8) 8) 8)

Not sure on the colour of the leather to be honest, I'll take a look at the pic in a bit, see if I can make it out. What sort of money is it to get the air con re-charged?

here's a pic of ice grey violet

and as for A/C i think most deep-freeze places can do this for you as for price not sure but if its never been re-charged it points to neglect and A/C bits aint cheap

I have to say, I wasn't to taken by the colour in the photo of the one for sale, but that one looks very smart indeed! I can't make out the colour of the leather of the one i am going to see, but I hope it's not grey, which I suspet it will be.

I'll just have to see tomorrow.

this might be a better pic of ice grey violet too

sorry you'll have to excuse the dodgy looking guy driving it :p

as for interior it would probably be more than likely grey leather though the one ess_three has tucked away  had black leather which now resides in scotcorradog60's motor now
