what do i need to fit this oil cooler???

Recommended Posts

hiya all i bought this new oil cooler off e-bay,

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... :EOAB:UK:6

i have got it for £51 which i thought was pretty good, i was told by the seller that the sandwich plate (i think thats what its called) that fits between the engine and the oil filter wont fit the corrado so i am looking for one that will make this cooler fit.

any comments on where to locate it or if ive been stung as i ve seen oil cooler kits on here for bout 130quid so when i saw this i thought it might save some penny's.

cheers guys and gals

Andy.

Hi

I have a very similar oil cooler setup on mine which I fitted the other week. You are right you will need a sandwich plate that will fit the Corrado. By the looks of the photo you will also need two hoses made up to connect the cooler to the sandwich plate. I had some stainless braided hoses made up 8) . You will also have to consider how/where you are going to mount the oil cooler. I have mounted mine to the left hand side of the radiator. I made some custom brackets up. I had to be careful of the bonnet release cable that runs under the slam panel. Other than that theres no problems locating it here. Its in behind the grille so cool air is always fed to it. Alternatively you can look at mounting it elsewhere, say in front of the radiator. Choice is yours at the end of the day.

I'm sorry I haven't got my digital camera with me at the moment otherwise I would post some pictures. If you really want some then I'll look at getting some later this week.

If you want some specific help feel free to PM me.

Yes try the places the others have suggested. I know they aren't the cheapest but Demon Tweeks sell the sandwich plates as well.

You are correct in saying that you will require more oil to compensate the oil cooler. It will roughly take an extra litre.

Mocal OTSP1T sandwich plate 3/4 - 16 thread.

You will need the Golf mk2 filter pipe thing if you are deleting your OE oil/water heat exchanger.

I know you're across the pond, but here's what it looks like:

Here's a full writeup I did of my oil cooler installation:

I actually have a Mocal sandwich plate still in the packet which will fit a G60. I never got round to doing it. Make me a offer if you want it.

PS the G60 belonging to Sy used to belong to a friend of mine, Will Stevens, it was fitted with a Golf Mk1 oil cooler which worked a treat and is very heap to do.
