Benny16v 0 Posted June 13, 2007 Ive heard on a few different occasions that there is 2 different sized intake manifolds, is there a way of telling by looking at it?? does it make much difference if you change to the larger 52mm??? thanks
mrbeige 0 Posted June 13, 2007 The standard intakes are 42mm, gut the first of the Golf 16v had the larger 52mm IIRC. The difference will be that the 42mm gives a better torque but worse top end and the 52mm does the opposite.
Benny16v 0 Posted June 13, 2007 Ok cool, thanks for the reply
flusted 0 Posted June 13, 2007 Theres actually 3 different types, the very early golf 16vs came with a long runner/small plenum 42mm,then approx 88on had 50mm small plenum. All corrados and passats came with 42mm short runner/large plenum
jimbo jones 0 Posted June 15, 2007 O.K so i have a 2.0 16v which i assume has the 42mm manifold. In other peoples opinion what is best the 42mm or 50mm? and would the 50mm bolt straight on to my car?
Benny16v 0 Posted June 15, 2007 Would like to no the answer to that 1 myself! :?
Polo Classic 0 Posted June 15, 2007 the runners on the small ones are straight on the outside, whilst the big ones have a "bump" to give room for the sparkplugs
SteveVPK 0 Posted June 15, 2007 My 50mm went straight on, it will be a decrease torque up to around 5k but will pull harder after that...
flusted 0 Posted June 15, 2007 42mm is best for drivability, look in the wiki for pics of the different types of manifold
saysomestuff 0 Posted June 16, 2007 I've tried both, I prefer the 42mm, the 50mm doesn't give you any more power it just shifts the torgue band up, meaning you need to rag it a bit more.
