jack 0 Posted July 29, 2007 Hi folks, I just found out tonight that I need a new radiator :( for my VR6. Does anyone have any suggestions/recommendations on a particular brand or should I just go for a factory one.
Supercharged 2 Posted July 29, 2007 ND (Denso) Marsdon - UK made part but only seem to be available thru VAG... Could try speaking to them tho - based in Shipley near Bradford.
Jon_vr6 1 Posted July 29, 2007 personally always go for a VAG one got mine for £122 quid when mine went big ish job but can be done yourself and you'll save on labour costs!
Jim 2 Posted July 29, 2007 Would advise against a GSF radiator. Recently fitted one to mine (branded "Flusser") and its leaking coolant from two places at the moment. As soon as I can afford to get it out and buy a VAG one I will be doing so!

As soon as I can afford to get it out and buy a VAG one I will be doing so! Thirded. GSF rad didn't sit in the crossmember dimples properly, as such kept popping out of one side despite being clamped at top by slam panel!
Jim 2 Posted July 31, 2007 I'll second that, have the same problem as jim in at least one place, can I get the temp switch to seal?...no. Glad thats not just me then. Eric wrapped the temp switch with plenty of PTFE tape but it still dribbles out of the bottom of it. Sigh.
boost monkey 0 Posted July 31, 2007 Lots of poorly designed / manufactured radiators from GSF it seems! I found the plastic pipe at the top for the cylinder head hose to be porous too, seemed to be a fair bit weaker than my original rad.
jack 0 Posted July 31, 2007 Thanks for the advice, from the sound of things I'll be staying clear of the GSF and going to my local VW dealer.

Which dealer was that? My mate works at VW and quoted me £153 at that was with 18% discount.
steve @ 0 Posted July 31, 2007 I believe the book figure is £163+Vat. Just replaced my non gen rad with a new gen item. Miles better in terms of quality.

My mate works at VW and quoted me £153 at that was with 18% discount. I just ordered one today from Heathrow VAG and it cost me £160 + VAT. Tried to get them to discount it but they weren't going to budge on the price. it should be easy to change yourself Spent an hour and a half this evening removing the old radiator ready for the arrival of the new one. didn't use the bumper/slam panel removal method but just unbolted the fans from the radiator first, removed them and then removed the rad. You have to remove the battery first, the N/S headlight/grille and apply some gentle upwards pressure on the top of the slam panel but it will come out with a bit careful manoevring. I've decided to change the thermostat and housing whilst I've got the coolant drained, no doubt it's gonna give up at some time seeing as it's nearly 12 years old! Lol looks like i got my rad at the right time then i got mine off a mate who works for audi (same group as VW) and he got the discount aswell! Asked him to sort me one out and phoned me back later and said its going to be pricey so when he told me £122 quid i was more than happy! Must vary from which part of the country you get it from! Toad 0 Posted August 6, 2007 I put a post up in the suppliers thread. Picked my new vr radiator up for £99.87 all in, from a radiator specialist near me. They fitted the top elbow and temp sender and pressure tested it in front of me. Looks OE quality too.
