Will a Mk3 2.0 8v work in the G60?

Recommended Posts

As title really, am looking a for a new engine for the G, Goldie has spotted a 2.0 8v M3 Golf in a scrappy local to me.

What i would like to know is, would it work as a straight swap for the 1.8 in the G60?

e.g - will the internals be up to the job with the G-lader bolted on?

Will the piperwork for the charger plumb in easily enough?

would there be any benefits making a hybrid with the G60 head and 2.0 bottom end?

no, the N/A 8v engine has pretty much all different internals to a G60, for a start the compression is lower as it's forced induction on the G60.

Sorry, my bad. I did assume the internals would be different etc... but would they be up to the job without uprating the eods etc..

As for compression could this be reduced by using a thicker headgasket as the VR boys do?

ud need to use the g60 head and maybe stack the head gaskets?

Good news!

I will be able to use the head from the G so thats not a problem.

Would i use the G60 loom of would i need the 2.0 one?

Will have to investigate head gaskets etc.. for compression.

I assume the charger bracket etc.. should all bolt on ok.

Seems to be differing opinions here!

Do you mean the BBM charger doesnt last or the engine itself doesnt last?

I would be looking at using the 2.0 bottom end with th G60 head and the G-lader charger.

Think i may give Darren a call later!

also the mk3 2 litre block is taller than the pg block so you may have clearance issues aswell.

For this reason a 9a block would be better iMO.

you'd use the g60 management/loom if your going to g-larder the engine.

There's a few posts about 2litre g60's on here. You may want to peruse them b4 you start to spend any money.

if its just to tie you over then aslong as you dont cain it, id of thought it wwould be fine.

VEEDUBBED runs a 9a 16v/g60 on stacked head gaskets and he hasnt had any probs within 2 years

have a go at building it, it will be the best way to learn. whats the worst that can happen? i assume your bottom end it shot so you are trying to replace it on the cheap? if that is the case then you won't be any worse off if it goes bang? thats my opinion anyway
